Hi,

I just emerges sync, emerged giftd 0.11.7 but the plugins fail ...

Code:
/lib /usr/lib/libgift.so -lgiftproto -ldb -lz  -march=i686 -Wl,-soname -Wl,libOpenFT.so -o .libs/libOpenFT.so
/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.3.4/../../../../i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: cannot find -lgiftproto
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

make: *** [all] Error 2

!!! ERROR: net-p2p/gift-openft-0.2.1.4 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 23, Exitcode 2
!!! failed to build

I've got the same error with gift-fasttrack-0.8.7 : cannot find -lgiftproto

During openft emerge i noticed :
Code:

-------------------- core ---

libgift.................: 0.11.6
libgiftproto............: 0.11.6

i will try to emerge gift 0.11.6 instead of .7 just in case ...

Any one succeeded with those versions ?

Well it worked with gift-0.11.6 .. so unless there is a workaround (i didn't and still don't have time to find out) .7 should be masked.

I have gift-0.11.7 and the plugins all work, however now that you've mentioned it, I notice that when I install the plugins it does say
Code:
------------------- core ---

libgift.................: 0.11.6
libgiftproto............: 0.11.6

and yet, when I do 'giftd --version' it verifies that I do indeed have 0.11.7 intalled.

Weird.

I guess you ahd gift installed previously, thats probably why you don't have the file missing error .. i suppose.
I did a "fresh" install.

Anyway, it is weird.

I remember a long time ago, there were problems with the ebuilds putting some libraries in the wrong directories. You might want to verify that libgiftproto.* are in /usr/lib.

I haven't been able to reproduce any of this- my gift-0.11.7 builds all correctly create the required files:
Code:
>>> /usr/lib/libgiftproto.la
>>> /usr/lib/libgiftproto.so -> libgiftproto.so.0.0.0
>>> /usr/lib/libgift.so.0.0.0
>>> /usr/lib/libgiftproto.so.0.0.0
>>> /usr/lib/libgiftproto.so.0 -> libgiftproto.so.0.0.0
but I did just put -r1 into portage with a few fixes that may solve your problem; please try it and let me know in bug #63790 if everything's working correctly now.

try re-emerging the package after merging it and see if that helps (emerge it twice)

Could be since i had 0.11.6-r1 then 0.11.7 and it worked, but it is too late and i don't know if unmerging would really work proprely if the ebuild has a bug.

Did you try on a fresh install too ?

Anyway it would be interesting to have feedback from more users. If someone else has this problem, he would find this topic.

What I was suggesting:
emerge =net-p2p/gift-0.11.7-r1
emerge =net-p2p/gift-0.11.7-r1

and tell me if merging it twice works.

I experienced the same problem. Emerging gift-fasttrack would stop with a linker error of not finding libgiftproto.so

After seeing your suggestion, i reemerged gift (that's gift-0.11.7 and i had no prior install) and indeed the libgiftproto.so library was there.
