Can't emerge anything needing oaf

One more question...

The reason I got started down this path is that I cannot emerge anything that requires oaf (or most of gnome). I get the same errors, that being:

/usr/bin/orbit-idl -I../idl --define=GNOME_FACTORY_COMPILATION ../idl/oaf-factory.idl
Error: Empty file

Same with Evolution, when it tries to create the evolution.idl file, it'll complain about an empty evolution.idl file and bomb out.

manually trying to compile oaf 0.6.10 I get..

I've searched the board and found a post about doing a emerge --update world --emptytree and tried that, but still a no-go.

Any clues?
