How do you adjust the desktop icon spacing in KDE 3.3?
EDIT: Yes, I have looked on the net and can't seem to figure out where it is. _________________ Git has obsoleted SVN.

Okay, I've found the configuration file in ~/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals, but it completley ignores any GridYSpacing when I add it in below the already-existing GridXSpacing. _________________ Git has obsoleted SVN.

Am I to understand that no one else is having this problem, or that no one else cares? _________________ Git has obsoleted SVN.

I saw this issue posted in a KDE mailing list, bug report or in the weekly CVS digest. Not sure exactly where, otherwise I would link it.
Seems that the setting for GridXSpacing in the config file is used normally, but GridYSpacing is currently hardcoded into the desktop. The reasoning seemed to be that the current value won't break horribly for any known icon set/size combination, even if it looks a little ugly.
This is going to be fixed, but it looks like the devs wanted to make sure they could properly account for Grid Spacing being smaller than the icon sizes, or something like that. The needed changes therefore couldn't be included in the final release due the code freeze.
Hope that clears it up a bit |

Just to add on it, here's the bug report at bugs.kde.org -- How quickly it became hated, it's 3rd right now... which kind of puts things into perspective... I mean it's hated more than 'incorrect font rendering' hehe ... |

In addition to *large* iconspacing, I've found another annoying thing. Can somebody confirm this? I'm using a child panel on top of the screen. When the child panel pops up, it pushes the icons down. The problem is that this puts the icons in two columns instead of one. I've solved it by laying icons out horizontally. But if others are experiencing this as well I'll report it. |

When I sort icons with a top child panel, the icons get partially covered by the top panel. |

I had that problem as well for a while (I think it was with the betas). But now the top panel pushes the icons down. As this happens, some of the icons get "squeezed out" to the right and end up in a second column. |
