I just did an emerge sync followed by an emerge --update --deep world and it failed:
Code:

>>> Downloading ftp://ftp8.us.postgresql.org/pub/pgsql/v7.4.2/postgresql-base-7.4.2.tar.bz2
--16:04:25--  ftp://ftp8.us.postgresql.org/pub/pgsql/v7.4.2/postgresql-base-7.4.2.tar.bz2
           => `/usr/portage/distfiles/postgresql-base-7.4.2.tar.bz2'
Resolving ftp8.us.postgresql.org... 64.39.2.174
Connecting to ftp8.us.postgresql.org[64.39.2.174]:21... connected.
Logging in as anonymous ... Logged in!
==> SYST ... done.    ==> PWD ... done.
==> TYPE I ... done.  ==> CWD /pub/pgsql/v7.4.2 ...
No such directory `pub/pgsql/v7.4.2'.

!!! Couldn't download postgresql-base-7.4.2.tar.bz2. Aborting.

When I manually went to ftp://ftp8.us.postgresql.org/pub/pgsql, I found that as of today, 7.4.2 is no longer available, as it has been replaced with 7.4.3.
Code:

Index of ftp://ftp4.de.postgresql.org/pub/postgresql/
Up to higher level directory

Hopefully, this will be fixed quickly, and the emerge sync will call for the newer version, but until then, is there a workaround?

Actually, it is more than a postgresql problem, because it stops my emerge --update --deep world, which in turn prevents me from bringing several systems up to date. :evil:

I do not so much care about the particular 7.4.2 version of postgresql as I care about updating those systems. I expect what is desired is to emerge the latest version of postgresql, but then one must be sure that the latest version has been tested with the associated version of gentoo.

It seems to me that the problem is in the portage tree. It should specify the 7.4.3 version of postgresql, which is the latest version (as of today).

Some of my machines were at gentoo-2.4.25-r2 and some were at -r3, but after the emerge --update --deep world I see that -r4 is now available. I looked on security.gentoo.org, but I was unable o find anything indicating a kernel upgrade for security reasons. What has changed in the kernel, and why? Should I build a new kernel, or stick with what is presently working?

Other than that, everything worked fine this time.

Thanks for fixing the problem! :D
