|

I'm having trouble compiling anything on my new shiny Athlon XP.
Basically anything I try to compile keeps failing with the same error. I can't post the exact error but it is something like this:
2.13.90.0.4.20020814 internal error, aborting at elflink.h line 6226 in elf_link_output_extsym
some stuff here
collect2: ld returned exit 1 status
This is also intermittent because sometimes it compiles and sometimes it doesn't.
I couldn't compile my stage 2 and had to go to stage 3 to build the system becuase of this problem. Now I'm trying to emerge Gnome and it keeps stopping all the time. What's funny is if i do an emerge sync the next couple of packages go through and then this happens again. Really weird. Hopefully someone can help me with this. _________________ Of all the things I lost, I miss my mind the most. |

Can you try some of the stress tests in Segmentation fault with GCC? _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

I noticed some stability problems with my shiny new Athlon XP as well. I ended up having to clock the system down a few megahertz for a week or so, I suppose until it got 'burned in'. Anyway, after a while, I clocked it back up to a normal speed, and I haven't had any problems since. |

Just like a motor in a car? You cannot accelerate too much in the first months

That is, if you plan on running the engine hard, thats how you should break it in. *shrug* I'm guessing it probably doesn't matter much. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

Sometime ago, it did. My father worked for Mercedes-Benz in the 70's...

I switched to default settings in my BIOS and after that the compiles went through fine. I think I had the optimized settings loaded on my Shutlle ak35gtr and that might have been the problem. I'm posting this from my newly compiled gnome/mozilla. _________________ Of all the things I lost, I miss my mind the most. |
