not quite sure what you mean by emerge info but here is a search and a --pretend emerge
tux root # emerge -s quake1
Searching...
[ Results for search key : quake1 ]
[ Applications found : 1 ]
* games-fps/quake1
Latest version available: 2.40
Latest version installed: [ Not Installed ]
Size of downloaded files: 3,136 kB
Homepage: http://www.idsoftware.com/games/quake/quake/
Description: The original Quake engine straight from id !
License: GPL-2
tux root # emerge --pretend quake1
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild N ] games-fps/quake1-2.40
Oh, and I played it old skool plenty of hours on my pc, cuz opengl wouldn't brighten up enough, now I would like to try glquake, ttyquake and other cool stuff such as red blue quake 2 and aa quake 2... _________________ yay |

I get this problem if I don't do "opengl-update nvidia" before emerging opengl-stuff. Haven't tried with quake 1, but I assume the same would be the case there. _________________ PKA Cuber

... I have ati.. but I'll try updating it to ati before....
EDIT: quick side not, I recently did an emerge -uD world, and it stopped in the second pakage cuz I needed to download the jre and jdk things but... if I try it again it says its all done, its like it thinks that everything is updated, although its not...
EDIT 2: I did the emerge -uD world after the qauke1 prob emerged so thats not the source of it _________________ yay |

If you know where your emerge failed, simply reemerge those packages manually. Also, emerge is quite good at keeping track. Are you sure it didn't stop on something trivial, like cleaning the work folders or something like that? _________________ PKA Cuber

Im pretty sure it stopped on something major when i --pretend emerge it only has the main package left to emerge and I cant run quake.... I have no clu how to do it manuall, would be up to trying tho...
EDIT: I did try it with USE="-opengl" but it gave same error, same spot.... _________________ yay |

I mean manual as in "emerge packagename" on the package it stopped on. If you don't know wich one, it won't help.
And I wouldn't worry about emerge losing track. Never happened to me, and I've had a lot of compilations broken. How about reemerging your opengl stuff (modules, drivers etc.)? _________________ PKA Cuber

Oh well, we tried! And... yes, I'm afraid it's Bugzilla. There's something knackered there, although I'm not sure what. _________________ Reality is for those who can't face Science Fiction.

It worked with my Geforce2 GTS and also do with my actual Radeon 9600Pro. I'm using the ATI binary drivers. Perhaps you are using the DRI ones, I never tried them. Sorry if it doesn't work for you. I wish they fix the standard package , so everybody can enjoy the original and amazing Quake _________________ La PDA de tungsteno |

Hahahaha! You are lucky. You've found a true Carmageddon lover here (I bet my nick and avatar remembers you something... humm... )
Both original Carmageddon and the Splat Pack expansion pack are 100% playable via Dosemu. BTW, they work better than in Windows XP
Never tried but I think Windows 95 versions should work aswell under Wine/WineX.
Happy smashing!
P.S - People don't talk a lot about Dosemu, but it's great for playing old MS-DOS games such as Carmageddon, Dungeon Keeper, Theme Hospital, Destruction Derby, etc. Also useful for old programs.
