The is a known bug in the official release stage tarball that prevent me from installing on my system (bug 41886).

I read in the catalyst doc that I need a portage tree snapshot, but I cannot find a snapshot of the portage tree when release 2004.1 was created to patch it with patch in the bug mentionned above, I can only find daily snapshots.

Where do I find official release (2004.1) portage tree snapshots?

Any more advice more on creating my own stage tarball?

Thanks a lot!

Actually, in this case:
Code:
Unpacking /inst/dist/stage3-x86-20040213.tar.bz2... tar: ./usr/share/terminfo/v/vt100-am: Cannot hard link to `./etc/terminfo/v/vt100': No such file or directory
tar: ./usr/share/terminfo/v/vt200: Cannot hard link to `./etc/terminfo/v/vt220': No such file or directory
tar: ./usr/share/terminfo/s/sun1: Cannot hard link to `./etc/terminfo/s/sun': No such file or directory
tar: ./usr/share/terminfo/s/sun2: Cannot hard link to `./etc/terminfo/s/sun': No such file or directory
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

You should be able to say:
Code:
# cd ./etc/terminfo
# ln -s ../../usr/share/terminfo/v/vt100-am v/
# ln -s ../../usr/share/terminfo/v/vt200 v/
# ln -s ../../usr/share/terminfo/s/sun2 s/sun

I think `tar` continued after it had these problems ("Error exit delayed from previous errors"), meaning that the rest of the system intact. Creating symlinks manually should work around this issue.

yes, you can make your own stage tarballs, but that requires a working gentoo system.

the program is called catalyst, and its in portage.
it would be easier to patch the tarball that makeing your own.

Hi GentooBox!

Well, if one needs gentoo to create gentoo, nobody can get anywhere... except for God (He created light, in the dark. Without a flash light or a candle, quite impressive if you ask me).

How do I "patch" a tarball?

I already tried remaking the symbolic links as explained earlier. I do not know if it worked, all I know so far is I get this message:

livecd / # env | less
WARNING: terminal is not fully functional

At this point, I'm going to ignore this message until I can complete the installation, that is after this is resolved: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=171276

Cheers!
