I was running GNOME 2.6 beta from breakmygentoo.net, but now that 2.6.0 is in ~x86, I figured I'd upgrade. I can't get past ORBit2, though.

Pango is acting weird too. Some GNOME programs fail to start and output, for example

which is obviously wrong.
I tried re-emerging freetype, but it didn't help. I have backups with 2.6 beta, but I'd like to fix this problem. |

I'm having the same problem when trying to compile gnome 2.6.
When I had the prolem compiling ORbit2-2.10, I changed the CFLAGS, and it
passed, and almos in the end of gnome-2.6 instalation.
I'm having problems compiling with this last packages:
| Code: | # ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -pv gnome
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

I found the solution!
I needed to re-emerge the libIDL with less abusive CFLAGS
(-mcpu=i686 -O2 -pipe), and I emerged ORBit2-2.10.0 with these CFLAGS
with no errors.
I'll try to compile now, the rest os the packesg for gnome-2.6

| It still isn't working; I get the same error. Thanks anyway. Hopefully this won't require a re-install. |

I've got the same problem with ORBit2-2.10.0
recompile of libIDL didn't help |

I also had this problem. Changning flags/USE didn't help. But I emerged some Gnome packages (which didn't have the damn ORBit2 as dependency)by hand.
And: emege Orbit 2.8.3 and then Update to 2.10.0. This time, it compiled without any errors and with my optimizations.
Hope this works for you too |

I tried to do a emerge -e gnome, but it didn't help. and I did it twice.
I tried to recompile, both by using -mcpu=i686 -O2 -pipe and by hand, but it didn't work either.
I tried to compile 2.8.3 (the thought was to upgrade to 2.10.1 after that, but I didn't make it that far) - didn't help either.
I saw another thread somewhere (I did some searching but did't come up with anything) that dealed with the same issue, although they did some serious symlinking - but that didn't help me either.
I'm out of ideas. _________________ Computer science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes. |

hi
I had the same problem.
I saw in another forum to do this change in /etc/make.conf
put [or uncomment]:
and it simply works...

| That did not work... and I see no reason why it would for peoplee like me using 1 processor and no distcc to build the package anyway. |

I usually have "-j2" uncommented, but when I commented it (i.e. disabled it) it worked to compile. _________________ Computer science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes. |

Well, I have no idea why, but I got ORBit2 to emerge.
I tried editing my CFLAGS as suggested above, no luck..
I tried editing my MAKEOPTS, no luck..
I tried emerging libIDL again with these lowered flags, and then ORBit2 again, no luck...
I tried emerging ORBit2-2.8.3 and then emerging 2.10.0, no luck...
So I put my settings back to what they were before and started emerging other gnome things that didn't depend on ORBit2.
Finally, I emerged ORBit (0.5.7 or something like that, I think it's a different program), and then rebooted out of frustration. (I'm a windows user, it's a habit )
After the reboot? I tried emerging ORBit2 again. and it WORKED. ?!!!?
No idea why. Hope this helps someone |

I tried to compile it by hand a few times, and it worked for me.
But now, metacity 2.8.1 won't compile. woho! ^_^ _________________ Computer science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes. |

I'm having the same problem on a new build.. it complains about clock skew, and fails at orbit-interface.h
I've tried all the suggestions I can think of.. anyone have any idea?
EDIT: I set date forward one month and re-emerged.. it fixed the problem for me.. it was successful. hope this helps others.. _________________ Kororaa install method - have Gentoo up and running quickly and easily, fully automated with an installer! |

| Code: | emerge ntp
rc-update add ntp-client default |
Then edit ntp-client's conf.d file, and start it. That should keep your clock in check. Seems that a sane clock is of some importance here, so keep it set to an atomic one! _________________ Reality is for those who can't face Science Fiction.

I had the same problem.
ORBit2-2.10.3 failed to emerge telling me:
| Code: | ...
../../../include/orbit/orb-core/../../../src/orb/orb-core/orbit-interface.idl:15: Error: `TTypeCode' undeclared identifier
** (process:7864): WARNING **: ../../../include/orbit/orb-core/../../../src/orb/orb-core/orbit-interface.idl compilation failed

!!! ERROR: gnome-base/ORBit2-2.10.3 failed.
!!! Function einstall, Line 385, Exitcode 2
!!! einstall failed |
I scanned the forums for other peoples solutions and found none of the following to work in my case:
- emerging older version of ORBit2 (2.8.3) then new version again
- ACCEPT_KEYWORDS=~x86 emerge libIDL ORBit2 (no different from emerge -u libIDL ORBit2 in my case)
- Setting MAKEOPTS="-j1" in /etc/make.conf and then try to emerge ORBit2
- Changing CFLAG O3 to O2 in /etc/make.conf (lower optimization level/safer?) before emerging ORBit2
I did not think changing the system time whould help since I did not get the output about the clock being skewed ("make[4]: warning: Clock skew detected. Your build may be incomplete.) that was focused on in Bug 51791.
But, as a last attempt I set my date (probably much too) way ahead in the future and tried one more time. And it worked!
So what was needed in my case was setting the clock at a future date. What I did specifically is was:
| Code: |
date 041216
emerge -u ORBit2
sudo /usr/bin/ntpd -qg #(using ntp to correct my system time)
|
Thanks everyone for helping and talking about the problem! |

Just wanted to thank you for posting this; I had exactly the same problem, tried everything possible, except changing the clock time. I didn't notice any errors about the clock either...
Needless to say, it worked I emerged the ebuild while setting the time to year 2010 and it worked. |
