Hello,

I just thought I'd give a thumbs up to the people who idle in the #gentoo channel for their quick help to my silly problems today. For some reason I overlooked the fact that the universal livecd (required to boot gentoo) was in a different directory than the actual package cd, something I apparently didn't catch when I was reading the install docs. I was helped quickly and not laughed at (despite the answer being right in the topic, doh!). As a debian convert, I'm more and more happy with Gentoo every day (I'm giving 2004.0 after having played a bit with 1.4 a while back).

Just thought I'd share,

-Rav

Heh, I did the same thing when downloading the new live-cd back in the day, and I've been using gentoo for ages ^_^

I dl'ed that prebuilt packages thing for nothing. Didn't realise they changed the standard install cd to "universal live-cd"

I myself have not made the same mistake, but a few of my converts have. I had to go sort them out when their packages CD wouldn't boot. There might be an error in the install guide, but I haven't checked.

I'm still using my old knoppix CDs or my old gentoo 1.4_rc1 cds that I have lying around for my installs, since I do everything from stage one and have memorized the install process.

dont get me wrong....lots of helpful peeps but its a victim of its own success!!! too many conversations going on at once.....channel output justs zooms past my eyes.....Im fact Im thinking of buying a 22" monitor just so I can run a fullscreen irssi at 1900x1440 to keep track of it all :)

ps props to Roger55 & Houn recently for their great perseverance with some probs I had.
