Something like this in XF86Config:
Code:

Section "InputDevice"

# Identifier and driver

    Identifier  "Mouse1"
    Driver      "mouse"
    Option "Protocol"    "IMPS/2"
    Option "Device"      "/dev/input/mouse0"
    Option "ZAxisMapping"       "4 5"

For my mx700 (wireless mx 500) and mx duo keyboard:

my imwheel.rc (/etc/X11/)
Quote:
".*"
None, Up, Alt_L|Left
None, Down, Alt_L|Right

And I load this everytime X starts (/etc/X11/Sessions/**):
Quote:
/usr/X11R6/bin/xmodmap -e "pointer = 1 2 3 6 7 4 5"
/usr/bin/imwheel -k -p -f -b "67"

and XF86Config:
Quote:
Section "InputDevice"

# Identifier and driver

Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
# Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2"
Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2"
Option "Buttons" "7"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "6 7"
Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"

This allows all buttons but the task switching button on the mouse to work.
Note this is for PS2 mouse and keyboard.

Herbo:
I tried using your approach to get my mx900 (the bluetooth model of mx700) to work. I just put the xmodmap and imwheel linex in my /etc/X11/Sessions/kde-3.2.1 file. With your settings the buttons on the side of the mouse work as mousewheel up / down and the mousewheel selects the text the pointer is over or something like that. If i change the references to buttons 6 and 7 to point to buttons 4 and 5 (and remove the xmodmap line), the wheel is working, but the other buttons aren't.

Any suggestions as to how I get all the buttons working? i would like to be able to use the buttons on the side of the mouse as forward and back in mozilla - and the "cruise control" functionality would come in handy as well...

When i try to run xmodmap i get the this error

Code:

/usr/X11R6/bin/xmodmap -e "pointer = 1 2 3 6 7 4 5"
/usr/X11R6/bin/xmodmap:  commandline:0:  bad number of buttons, must have 3 instead of 7
/usr/X11R6/bin/xmodmap:  1 error encountered, aborting.

Any ideas whats wrong?
