|

I just installed gentoo on my Athlon64 and while KDE is compiling i wanted to test the sound. Modules get loaded properly and everything looks fine,
onyl when i play an mp3 with mpg123 it sounds like some spacey music
is it mp123 problem on amd64 or could this be due to some hardware setup ?

Sounds like a driver problem to me.
What soundcard do you have? What drivers do you use?
Did you emerge the alsa-drivers? Or do you use the alsa-drivers from the 2.6-kernel? |

| You could try to use mpg321 instead of mpg123 as a workaround. This helped me with the same problem. |

I can confirm this problem still exists and that mpg321 is a viable alternative.
This was reported and supposedly resolved in bugzilla a long time ago!
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25587
mpg123-0.59s-r3 still has the problem!
I suppose now's a good time to learn how to use this buzilla thing. |

OK, I learned newbies don't have permission to reopen bugs.
Can someone with sufficient authority push this issue? Thanks!! |
