If there is indeed a PPC release, is there a rough changelog or "What's New" of sorts? As in - why upgrade?

Hi, yes there is a PPC 2004.0 release. Numerous changes. Perhaps the most important change is that this release is entirely produced with the new gentoo meta-tool, catalyst, which you can use to produce your own custom gentoo livecd including but not limited to ppc compatible cds.

We also switched to a strict release schedule. We should be able to produce quarterly releases because releasing is now almost completely automated.

Third big change is the move to one shared handbook, rather than each architecture having its own notes.

The changelog for this release can be found in the ppc release notes. Of course questions are welcome. The bootable cds in the new release are generic PPC (includes G3,G4 and G5 compatible). This means you can use the same cd to boot (and install gentoo on) your ibook G3, your powermac G4, your dual G5... The cds are also SMP aware now, meaning you can take advantage of your second processor while installing. We also have excellent G4 and G5 powermanagement. This release features four (two uniprocessor and two multiprocessor) kernels, includes kde 3.2, gome 2.4.1, xfce4 and various other prebuilt packages.

I have also committed kde/gnome cd support to catalyst. You can now customize your own kde/gnome cd, and build it yourself.

We have also started PPC64 officially. Tom Gall, Brad House and me will be performing that port. It is progressing quite nicely.

Where can I actually download 2004.0? I don't see it on any of the mirrors.

It is not on every mirror yet. Doesn't seem to be on any
Australian mirrors, but I have seen it on at least one US
mirror:
http://lug.mtu.edu/gentoo/releases/ppc/

So it is there, it's just that it hasn't propagated to all
mirror yet.
