I recently switched to Gentoo and it's a damn fine distribution. Now I'm in the process of customizing KDE and such, so I made a wallpaper for my KDE desktop and here it is.

Green Preview:
[img:49ad7c8146]http://www.aaronshi.com/linux/gentoomatrixprev.jpg[/img:49ad7c8146]

Aqua Preview:
[img:49ad7c8146]http://www.aaronshi.com/linux/gentoomatrixprevaq.jpg[/img:49ad7c8146]

The randomized scrolling code is made with the Gentoo letters from the Gentoo logo
[img:49ad7c8146]http://www.gentoo.org/images/gentoo-new.gif[/img:49ad7c8146]

and the impression of the Gentoo "G" was made with the help of http://dev.gentoo.org/~drobbins/gblend.png

and the "gentoo linux" font is the same one used in the [img:49ad7c8146]http://www.gentoo.org/images/gtop-s.jpg[/img:49ad7c8146]
(found the font on the forums somewhere). The font is called Zurich LtXCn BT.

 Tutorial: The Gentoo Matrix Code Wallpaper Tutorial

The wallpaper was created in 1600x1200 size, but I never set my monitor above 1024x768 res, so I don't know how it really looks on a large desktop. Personally, I like the smaller resolution ones better.

Comments, suggestions? If you need a custom size, let me know and I'll try to make it as long as it's not some super wacked size.
:D

:!: Edit: Slight boo boo on the Green 1600x1200, fixed now. 8)

:!: Edit: Added 1152x864 versions, added Red-Orange and Silver version.

:!: Edit: Added the tutorial!

:!: Edit: Added 3200x1200 and 4800x1200 Green versions!

Very, very nice!

I've been looking for a good Matrix theme wallpaper for a while. Yours - with that Gentoo twist - is just perfect!

Thanks!

Thanks for the comments, I'm glad you guys like them. :D

@shm, I tried uploading to kde-look.org to perhaps reduce my bandwidth usage, but they have a size limit of 500KB so only the 800x600 ones and green 1024x768 one was able to get uploaded. The rest were too big and I don't really want to reduce the quality. Their servers seem really slow. :? I think my bandwidth should be fine for a while yet. :)

They are absolutely awesome. The only problem is deciding which colour version to use!

You mean like light gray? Silver is a metallic property, would be hard to implement on non-metallic elements.

AgenT wrote:

Photoshop. I just had Gentoo installed last week, haven't had a chance to try Gimp yet, although I'm sure this can be done in such a program as long as layers and layer blending modes are supported. In fact, when I get Gimp setup, I'm gonna try making another generic Linux one with Tux imprinted into the code cascade. :)

Here's my reply to a similar question on kde-look.org
Quote:
Thanks, I tried to randomize the code streams and give them depth. Each code stream was individually crafted and tweaked. All in all over 200 layers. =O

The randomization of the code *sequence* was done by making an array of the letter images in javascript and using a random function to generate a table of the images. Then I just used each column of the table as a code stream.

Of course, I wouldn't really count Mozilla, but it rendered the Javascript-made table.

The way I implemented the layers, other colours shouldn't be too hard to make. If I get a lot of requests for a certain colour, I'll do my best to make one.

Yeah, a redd(ish) one would rock! (these two also rock, but don't really fit in with my fvwm config...)

Good job. How long did it take? Maybe I should start doing kde themes so that we can work together?
