Hi,
I'm wondering if there is some way to be selective about what sort of ebuilds emerge sync updates on a system; for example I'm running gentoo on a number of servers that are used for business purposes only, and all the games ebuilds (for example) are only eating up bandwith and space on my machine (a small issue I admit, but one that will only increase as the number of ebuilds supported by gentoo increases). Is there any way to define what categories of ebuilds you are interested in syncing (or any plan to introduce such configurability)? I realise that such a function could possibly cause problems with package dependancies but what the hell.
Thanks
Denis

create the file /etc/portage/rsync_excludes and in /etc/make.conf uncomment
Code:
RSYNC_EXCLUDEFROM=/etc/portage/rsync_excludes

you can use wild-cards in the rsync_excludes file such as games-*

A quick way to create a file to exclude everything
Code:
ls /usr/portage > /etc/portage/rsync_excludes

see my post at https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=119146 for more information.

You should then remove any ebuilds in /usr/portage that have been excluded so as to avoid the possibility of emerging an outdated ebuild and to save disk space. If emerge complains about not finding an ebuild check if it is in an excluded category, amend rsync_excludes, and emerge sync.

Thanks alot! It seems that I never really have to ask any questions around here... just lurking the forums is apparantly enough! 8)
