Hi,
Where should I put the mix files? I've emerged freecnc and a couple of other apps and I know emerge said the location but disappeared almost instantly from the terminal. Can I put both C&C (original) and RedAlert and then I can choose which to play or I can only put one of them?
Best regards,

for the demo you can d/l them along with freecnc.
emerge -pv freecnc
USE="demo" emerge freecnc
something like that.

emerge -pv freecnc
USE="demo" emerge freecnc
something like that.
But I don't want the demo, I have the original CD's for Command and Conquer and Red Alert.

/usr/share/games/freecnc/
It says this at the end of the emerge.

I know, that's what I said in my original post.

So if you use the USE 'demo' or 'nocd' its just the demo? I have the CDs laying around somewhere, I didn't feel like digging them up...
How do I install/run the game? I found the script dealy in /usr/games/bin, but if I type 'freecnc' at the terminal it tells me command not found.
Thanks

You need to be in the games group to play the games.

Hi,
I emerged freecnc with USE="nocd". Well, the first level works fine but when I finish it, the program closes. Is the demo only one level, that's not that much for >20MB data.
Anything I missed?
Thanks.

Try
Code: Select all
freecnc -map scg01
freecnc -map scg03
freecnc -map scg05
freecnc -map scg06
These worked for me, try others as well.

I tried instaling freecnc using the redalert discs

but am getting same problem. If you look into /usr/share/games/freecnc/conf/files.ini it seems to say what files are needed etc. It seems to be setting the mix path to ../mix/ ?? so I made a dir called mix in /usr/share/games/freecnc/ and put the mix files on - CD1 - main.mix and CD2 copy main.mix to redalert.mix. It still won't work

Having problems here too, with both C&C and Redalert mix files. Also asks for mix files I don't have!!! Will continue trying things

first thing i figured.. one has to rename the mixfiles to lowercase. also give /var/log/games/freecnc writepermission to group "games", so that you can see the errors.
anyone got it working?

Did anyone manage to get it work? I have original cd's here (and the Covert Operations datadisc) I haven't played it for years...
I found that some of the files mentioned in files.ini are not on the cd's, so I tried to comment out these lines as suggested in the file, but still no go

Just in case anyone else is looking for the answer to this:
http://ra-tech.planetcnc.gamespy.com/fo ... topic=2992
Summary: If you have the Win '95 version of C&C:TD, you'll have to get the extra mix files out of the installation directory - so "emerge wine" will sort you out. Finally, all the mix files then go into /usr/share/games/freecnc
