Code:
install-info: menyposten "Wget" finns redan, för filen "wget"
install-info: menyposten "Wget" finns redan, för filen "wget"
install-info: menyposten "Wget" finns redan, för filen "wget"

a lot messeges later with different programs etc...

Code:
install-info: menyposten "Guile Reference" finns redan, för filen "guile"
install-info: menyposten "Guile Reference" finns redan, för filen "guile"
install-info: menyposten "Guile Reference" finns redan, för filen "guile"
 * Processed 293 info files; 199 errors.

don't know what the text is in english but i should read something like this:
install-info: menupost "Guile Reference" allready exists, for the file "guile"

This has never happend before but since I moved to 2.6 this problem sometimes appears. I'm not really experiencing any consequenses but it can't be good, can it?

I have python 2.3.3 (the python-updater was located in /usr/portage/dev-lang/python/files/ not in /usr/sbin/) and python-updater found no packages to update so I don't think this is the problem

but thanks anyway

Well for fear of getting a new thread moved to dups, I'll post here: :oops:

This is what I get. I have tried above and some of what I found in other threads, moved to dups by the way, and still get it. I have not rebooted though. boo boo message as follows:

Code:

<-------  SNIP ------->
 * Regenerating GNU info directory index...
install-info: warning: no info dir entry in `/usr/share/info/gnucash-design.info.gz'
install-info: warning: no info dir entry in `/usr/share/info/g-wrap.info.gz'
install-info: warning: no info dir entry in `/usr/share/info/libcdio.info.gz'
install-info: warning: no info dir entry in `/usr/share/info/g-wrap.info-1.gz'
install-info: warning: no info dir entry in `/usr/share/info/g-wrap.info-2.gz'
 * Processed 344 info files; 5 errors.

root@smoker /home/dale #

I get the exact same boo boo no matter what I emerge.

What up wit dat :?: :?: How I fix it :?:

Thanks

He he, it seems like most of these have been thrown in the dups bin. Try this post.

I saw that one but doesn't make sense.

I'll post there and see what gives. Maybe more info.

Thanks though.

Do what your avatar is doing? :P

What exactly did you put in the bad files? Something like this?

Yep, like that. I did a small emerge and when it got through I got the same message with a extra line added for good measure. I then went back and looked at the file and it removed what I added. 8O

I dunno what to do wit dat. :?

I wish I had more emoticons. I need one where I shoot the puter. :lol:

Any other ideas?

Well, I've never had your problem so I really don't know any more. I had the same type of error as the OP but I don't remember what, if anything, I did to get rid of it. Unless you read the info files I guess you can always (re)move them. Just curious, what was the extra line you got?

It just added one more program to the list that don't have info files.

I'm stumped. <need little emoticon showing me kicking a coke can around>

Crap, I got to shutdown. I have to vaccum the floors. It getting pretty dirty here. I hate to do this:

Code:
root@smoker / # uptime
 20:22:03 up 10 days, 10:24,  1 user,  load average: 0.13, 0.08, 0.02
root@smoker / #

I have went three weeks but that was really dirty. :oops: :oops:

Anybody get any ideas, I'm listening.

Try this:

Code:
rm /usr/share/info/gnucash-design.info.gz /usr/share/info/g-wrap.info.gz /usr/share/info/libcdio.info.gz /usr/share/info/g-wrap.info-1.gz /usr/share/info/g-wrap.info-2.gz

Does your problem disappear then? If you're bothered about the missing info files, you can always remerge the packages that they come from (check this out before you get rid of them with "qpkg -f /usr/share/info/gnucash-design.info.gz" - qpkg is part of gentoolkit).

Ran your command as root and no error there. Then emerged something just as a test. I got this:

Code:
 * Regenerating GNU info directory index...
install-info: warning: no info dir entry in `/usr/share/info/dir~'
install-info: warning: no info dir entry in `/usr/share/info/g-wrap.info.gz'
install-info: warning: no info dir entry in `/usr/share/info/g-wrap.info-1.gz'
install-info: warning: no info dir entry in `/usr/share/info/g-wrap.info-2.gz'
 * Processed 343 info files; 4 errors.

root@smoker / #

Do I need to "rm" them to? I'm still kicking the can around.

I'm fixin to vaccum, been picking up and moving other stuff around, getting ready ya know.

Any more ideas? We may find a solution. I'm going to sync again and see if there is a update.

Later

There's several threads on this subject, but this seems to be latest one, and neither one contains solution.

I have a similar problem, only my error messages are in czech, but thet say the same thing. It's obviously connected with locale settings. When I have LC_ALL set to eg. cs_CZ, I get over 100 of error messages on each update of GNU info directory (not every merge updates it). When I unset LC_ALL before merge, I don't get a single one. Having LC_MESSAGES set to cs_CZ (or something more exotic then en_US) with LC_ALL unset also causes the same errors.

This seems to me to be a bug, although probably rather annoying then a serious one. Can somebody confirm it? Should this be reported somewhere?
