Oh geez....File systems, found it. It's late, I'm tired, need to stay up for a few more hours though, new years.

Thanx,

Linux Kernel v2.6.1-rc1-mm1

[*] /proc file system support
[*] /dev file system support (OBSOLETE)
[*] Automatically mount at boot
[*] /dev/pts file system for Unix98 PTYs
[*] Virtual memory file system support (former shm fs)

As super user: xterm and eterm work fine
As regular user: xterm works fine, eterm gives the not enough ptys error

Anyone else experiencing this?
