I had once emerged giptables but now I'm trying shorewall.
unmerged giptables. But it's still there (somewhere...)
After every emerge i get a list like this.
As you see a similar thing is going on with cron and vcron.
Where is this stuff parked actually and how do i repair?

-----
* Read the documentation from http://www.shorewall.net
* available at /usr/share/doc/shorewall-1.4.7c/html/index.htm
* and edit the files in /etc/shorewall before starting the firewall
>>> Regenerating /etc/ld.so.cache...
* Caching service dependencies...
* Service 'giptables' already provide 'firewall'!;
* Not adding service 'shorewall'...
* Service 'vcron' already provide 'cron'!;
* Not adding service 'vixie-cron'... [ ok ]>>> net-firewall/shorewall-1.4.7c merged.
>>> Recording net-firewall/shorewall in "world" favorites file...

>>> clean: No packages selected for removal.

>>> Regenerating /etc/ld.so.cache...
* Caching service dependencies...
* Service 'giptables' already provide 'firewall'!;
* Not adding service 'shorewall'...
* Service 'vcron' already provide 'cron'!;
* Not adding service 'vixie-cron'... [ ok ]>>> Auto-cleaning packages ...

>>> No outdated packages were found on your system.

Code:
rc-update del vcron default
rc-update add vixie-cron default

i also had to
Code:
rm /etc/init.d/vcron
for it to work

you'll probably have to do something similar with your firewalls

Well the packages that have been removed are already
removed from the runlevels.

flamingo root # rc-update del giptables
* giptables not found in any of the specified runlevels.
flamingo root # rc-update del vixie-cron
* vixie-cron not found in any of the specified runlevels.

But they're not. Still in the message. Can remove vcron cause i really have that.
FYI: giptables shorewall and vixie-cron are bogus entries.

flamingo root # rc-update del vcron
* vcron removed from the following runlevels: default
* Caching service dependencies...
* Service 'giptables' already provide 'firewall'!;
* Not adding service 'shorewall'...
* Service 'vcron' already provide 'cron'!;
* Not adding service 'vixie-cron'...

rc-update add shorewall default
* shorewall added to runlevel default
* Caching service dependencies...
* Service 'giptables' already provide 'firewall'!;
* Not adding service 'shorewall'...
* Service 'vcron' already provide 'cron'!;
* Not adding service 'vixie-cron'... [ ok ] * rc-update complete.

It has to be in some cache or temp something inside...???

tomk pointed out that there are a lot of people having issues with this. The official solution thread is here: Minor service dependancy annoyance... Please post there for further assistance on this topic.

Moving from Portage and Programming.
