OK... First I'd like to apologise if this is in the wrong forum and/or answered already (I couldn't find the answer tho). And now to the problem...

A couple days ago I borked my partition tables (don't ask how), so I used that mishap to reinstall gentoo using the vanilla kernel 2.4.23. After 14 hours of compiling (emerge -u portage) I tried to run X and the damn thing won't run for some reason... not even after about 10 kerner recompiles and applying the Winischofer sources... What follows is the log (I'm sorry for the spam... I's bigass):

Actually I had to ENABLE DRI in the XF86Config (remove the # )... it now works fine :D I found the answer in https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=100717.

Moral of the story? It's sometimes usefull to know some other language than your own... It's even more usefull actually using that knowledge while searching for answers.

Thanks for the help tho... regards,
Pithy

Many thanks guys, I thought SiS graphic card on my roommate's laptop, which I was installing Gentoo, was nasty, but this thread pointed out that DRI has to be activated on /etc/X11/XF86Config, and it works.

thanks guys too, I had this same problem with the SiS 6326 chipset and 8mb, uncommenting Load GLX and LOad DRI in /etc/X11/XF86Config fixed it.

Thought I would throw in my $2.00E-02, because I have the SiS 630 graphics set. I had to uncomment the lines in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file to load glx and dri modules. It seems like everyone here is discussing Xfree86, so I thought I would confirm it for my case as well.
