Setting up FEX Emulation

Mainly the root-fs for the emulated environment.
Has anyone done this before with a 'non-System-D' system? as the only prepackaged ebuild on the asahi overlay is for systemd and seems to just, install nothing if don't have it?
Is it just a full desktop install minus the kernel corss-compiled for generic x86_64?
