[Solved] gcc 15 now stable.

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

Is there anything that should be done now that we have moved from gcc-14 to gcc-15. Or do we just go about a merry way?

There is nothing in the news about this.

I ask because I have had gcc-14 with gcc-15 for a while. I needed gcc-15 for a particular program, but used gcc-14 for everything else.

using gcc-15 for some time now - no problems - there's nothing to do - it's your choice to switch.

at one point i switched completely to 15.

I've been using gcc-15 since before it went to ~arch on both amd64 and arm64.
It mostly just worked but there were a few bumps in the very early days.
That's what bugs.gentoo.org is for.

Now it stable, you can switch to it. There is no need to do a complete rebuild.

I've just started to play with the weekly gcc-16 snapshots too. So far, it's build time bug free.

Been using gcc16 since it entered the tree, for me everything builds fine; though I'm not running desktop-systems, only headless servers.

gcc15 was removed from my systems last summer-ish

Code: Select all

borg ~ # qlop -tHv sys-devel/gcc-15*
...
2025-05-27T21:18:45 <<< sys-devel/gcc-15.1.0: 8 seconds
borg ~ #
