i know lots of people have been playing with icc 8 in an attempt to extract every last ounce of perfomance from their machines so i thought a thead like this could be handy.
basicly just list the packages you have managed to build,
compiller flags,
icc version,
any perfomance gains/losses & stability effects you notice,
your CPU and anything funny you had to do to get it working.

hopefully this will serve a referance for everyone, im still downloading icc 8 at the moment so will add to this thread once i get more than povray to compile.

I only tried xmms and bzip2 so far, both work fine.
bzip2 is a little bit faster with icc.
I have an Athlon 1.4Ghz CPU and I found that using the default -O2 flag gives me the best performance.

FYI, there already is a list in the other ICC 8 thread here.

However, I'll move it up to the top of the thread to make it easier to find.

As for XMMS, while it does compile, I haven't seen it work properly (XMMS-1.2.7-r20). It runs, but will not load any files to play, nor does the playlist work.

I have also compiled qt-3.3.0_beta1 without a problem. The 'designer' is blazingly fast now, much more so than with gcc.

How? Mine keeps erroring out whenever ld tries to link something with a "(anything).o: unknown file, treating as linker script" error.

EDIT: NM dont use -ipo... Its working now but spitting out all kinds of warnings..

Yes, the warnings can be turned off with '-w' in your CFLAGS.
