Okay, as the topic said, my delete key doesn't work all of a sudden. Don't know what caused it. Now, when pressing it, I don't get any delete function, and it outputs a ~ to my console instead. This is the same for both the real console and xterms. The delete key works in normal X/gnome apps, though.

Please help! It is unbearable. :-(

stty erase ~

(of course instead of typing tilde, press the delete key to get whatever sequence it is actualy producing)

I don't know how to delete forward (until today I had never used the delete key from a command prompt -- and I suspect I never will again).

Yes, I figured I had to use the stty command somehow. The problems with the command you gave though:

1. it does backspace, afaik

2. the ~ tilde character in the command makes it think I am giving it a path, and not just a key to bind. That screws up the syntax. 8O

I'm having the same problem, too. It only happens if I use my normal account. If I login as root delete key works again. Any help?
