Gentoo mourns the sudden loss of Kent Fredric, also known to us by his IRC handle kent\n. He passed away following a tragic accident a few days ago.
Kent was an active member of the Gentoo community for many years. He tirelessly managed Gentoo’s Perl support, and was active in the Rust project as well as in many other corners. We all remember him as an enthusiastic, bright person, with lots of eye for detail and constant willingness to help out and improve things. On behalf of the world-wide Gentoo community, our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends.
Please join us in remembering Kent below.

I want to pay respect to Kent from my side too.
He was a fun guy, and I always enjoyed our talks in IRC and email.
Not just me, but, I'm pretty sure, all the Gentoo Community would miss him so much.
Gentoo would not be the same as before without him!

Really sad to hear

I didn't know him, but as an active perl user and developer I came across his handle quite a few times and always was happy that someone was still doing the chores to keep perl well and alive in gentoo. He will surely be missed not only by the perl and gentoo community, but specially by his friends and family. My heart goes out to to them. RIP.

This is terribly sad news. Condolences to everyone around him.
I've seen him around the Rakudo community too. Never had a bad opinion of his work, this is a huge loss to us all.

As a sporadic bug reporter, I came across him in a bug which concerns, sure, perl. He was a very kind person, in addition to his remarkable expertise.
Such sudden sad news renders me too upset. Farewell.

The few interactions I had with him were clearly positive. Opinionated as he was, he seemed somebody who loved Gentoo and did what he could to make it better. He will be missed a lot around here. My most sincere condolences to his friend and family, it isn't hard to see what a nice person you lost if he was even just half as nice as he was when I talked with him.
