I think the poll is fine. There would be too many mobos to list for the poll itself.

yup, the moderators have limited it to 7 poll entries. If you consider each mobo would make ~ 4 types for a socket (before another wave )... thats huge.


MSI Carbon X370 here. no issues

I had considered it manufacturer plus chipset, then thought that was too detailed. Each manufacturer probably has the same BIOS update policies and basic BIOS anyway, regardless of chipset.

Your poll is a call for misleading statistics, watch out with it.

By asking the m/b manufacturer and only boards in use, you may endup thinking the best one will get the more answer and pickup this one.
While your poll would in real won't reveal what you want:
- It would shown the more popular m/b maker or seller
- Or the cheapest board (that is another good reason to get popular)
- the more boards models a manufacturer has done for AM4 increase chance someone own one from this manufacturer.
- People having no specials issues use the board, people that were having huge issues with a board, might have already switch to another board, maybe even from the same manufacturer.

It's not because X or Y sells the more m/b that the m/b is the best one, it's not because m/b maker X has made a poor board that all its boards are poor, it's not because m/b Z is popular that it's the best board...

Anyway, you're not doing it right if you want use that poll to buy a m/b for an AM4.
As a blind example, even without the poll end, it's a bit logical that you will certainly endup with more Asus and MSI than Asrock, while Asrock is known for low prizes, they also have reputation of low quality ; and asking what board anyone own in a geek forum, will certainly gave way more Asus and MSI than Asrock. But this won't answer the quality of any AM4 board made by Asrock, just that Asus/MSI are more popular in geek's eyes.
Another example: if two guys use an Asrock model X that is 10% defective, and 100 guys use an Asus board that is 1% defective, you will probably endup with 1 complain against Asus, and none against the Asrock.

Thank you for your concern. I'm interested in exactly the question posed, what mobo's do Gentoo users actually use. I wouldn't expect it to be a measure of quality, else a similar poll for cars wouldn't include Ford, for instance.

I'm rather disappointed in only two responses. Of course, nothing can be gained from two responses, but I would have expected more Gigabyte responses than MSI, based on Gigabyte general popularity and the huge number of models they offer.

The ultimate hope was to see if complaints were localized to one or more manufacturers.

Your post is well taken. Over the years, I have often read that Asus is best, yet people that I personally know seem to have a lot of trouble with Asus. Maybe, Asus is just too tweakable. If a mobo offers few options, then it is more likely to work out of the box, albeit at lower performance. Also, MSI seems very aggressive in their marketing for AM4, yet seemed almost dead in the Intel/bulldozer world.

in all fairness a better option would have been the supporting chipset or a google poll where you can type in a lot more information. I might make one shortly

So, system is up and running.
Filled out the questionnaire.

I got an ASUS PRIME X370-A, and it's been at least okay so far.

I need to send my Ryzen away though, so I haven't gotten too many days worth of testing on it.

Initially it had a bit of a hard time booting with RAM at 3200 MHz (booting itself repeatedly a few times), but after updating the BIOS, it was fine.

The ethernet controller would drop the link down every 1 to 15 minutes or so, and get back up after 3 seconds, but that stopped after the BIOS update as well (not entirely sure if it happened because of said update, however).

A bit of a quality nit: one of the RAM retaining clip thingies feels loose, or more loose at least compared to the others. That is, it feels too light when moved between the open and closed positions.

Asrock 370 Taichi.. so far I'm very happy with it.. everything works but haven't tested wifi yet

Asrock taichi x370 with bios 5.10 i really like this mobo, didnt have any problems. i would buy another Asrock mobo again may be x570 but i think ill keep this one for a long time.

Gigabyte Aorus Pro - picked it up to replace an MSI B450 Tomahawk, had major probs with this board and from Google it seems to be an isolated issue with it and the earlier B350 model.

What sort of troubles? I've been running an MSI Tomahawk Arctic White B350 for over a year without trouble. Early BIOS took forever to boot, but later BIOS is not bad. Was think of the B450 for a later build but maybe I should stick with B350. LayesBIOS is supposed to support the Ryzen Makeover.

They're not widespread - certainly not saying it's all of those boards - but I'd get irregular probs with booting, CPU debug light. The thing would work, sometimes for a week or so and then refuse to POST (on one memorable occasion for a whole weekend). I tried everything with it - re-seating chip, BIOS flashes, out of case builds, new PSU etc, this guy has similar (ish) probs :

Not saying it's all models, just that I've noticed similar issues reported cropping up during my various attempts to fix the thing. Odd thing is, when up and running it was rock stable.

Anyhow, put the Gigabyte in (sound output is far better BTW), same components - been running just shy of five weeks now, no problems.

My current rig is my first true gaming build. Everything I had before this has been cheapish pre-built machines. This machine is exactly a year old, and it's had a MSI B350 Tomahawk in it. BIOS is easy to use, and it's rock solid. Absolutely no issues with it.

I've got the ROG Strix B350-F Gaming and the system I built with it works really well. Here it is on PCPartPicker.

Haven't had any problems, just the usual minor annoyances that come with new hardware, can't control the on-board RGB lighting, need the out-of-tree it87.ko to use the temperature sensors...

Currently running WIn7 Ultimate (don't care that MS hasn't supported it since 2015 as it still works fine) and using Vbox 6 to dive back into Gentoo - Seems that Ryzen is going to be problematic until GCC gets things right so I should have an interesting time.

GCC 9.1.0-r1 seems to work fine on Ryzen.
