You sure you are using them? Just double checking.. Anyways, what does the output of: glxinfo | grep 'GL_\(NV\|EXT\|ARB\)_texture_rectangle\|GL_ARB_texture_non_power_of_two'

Give you?

Edit: Also make sure you are using the latest glitz.

Do you have DRI enabled in xorg.conf? I think you need something else for it too, but I am no ATI expert.

I have the same problem...
this fix it for me:

Code: Select all

USE=-svg" emerge cairo && emerge cairo

no decorations

Post by Maxwell » Mon Jun 05, 2006 6:01 pm

I've updated my system last week and i stopped having any window decorations. I resolved any problems with revdep-rebuild and when i finally thought it was done i've noticed that i still don't have decorations.

I'm using nvidia, compiz-vanilla, and everything updated (the base install) from last friday or thursday.

Any ideas? Once again, I have everything working except deco.

Thanks for the replies

P.S.: Yes i've checked the wiki!

I have the same problem. I have try to post at compiz.net forum but I haven't answer. Only one thing: Are U sure that gnome-window-decorator is running?

ok i rebooted and now it works with some caveats.

1) I have to run

Code: Select all

compiz --replace decoration wobbly fade switcher resize place minimize cube rotate move zoom scale &
If I dont, none of the effects work.

2) Alt+wheel doesnt make things transparent. Im not sure mousewheel works for anything yet. It seems transparency on the window decs is working -- I have the ZMapping whatever in xorg.conf...any ideas on this?

3) I dont seem to have multiple desktops, so no rotating the cube. Any advice?

[edit]

had to fix my xorg.conf for wheel. transparency now works .... sweet transparency...
I can also cube, but i dont have a pager or whatever to show me which desktops have what....

first question still open.

Just tried to rebuild x11-drm from overlay. This uses CVS. Did the devs move the repository for this package from CVS to GIT? If so, we will need to update the build (or perhaps it is simply down at the moment...).
If God were a pickle, I'd still say "no pickle on my burger".

Yes, i have gnome-window-decorator running.

Code: Select all

# ps e | grep gnome-window-decorator
10418 pts/0 R+ 0:00 grep gnome-window-decorator MANPATH=/usr/local/share/man:/usr/ (...)

As a side question, i wanted to know if anyone was able to create the following setup: With a nvidia card have one monitor that would have XGL running, with gnome. The other monitor would have a different X, per example normal X or even framebuffer (i don't know how to setup that either) just for TV or for MythTV, or something like that.

Thanks for the help

has anyone seen xgl stop working? I was playing around with gnome-panel (moving it, killing its process), and next time I tried to start xgl it failed. Is there any easy fix for this? I tried rebooting, but it didnt work. I would hate to have to reinstall it.

also, is there a good cheatsheet for all the keyboard shortcuts available?

also, you know how minimized windows go into a wierd dock sort of thing at the bottom? On my box, sometimes there is only a sillouette of the app, whereas usually you see a minaturized version of the minimized app. Its about 50/50.

Finally, I try to load things like workspace viewer and task list into a panel, and I get all these failures. Is that unavailable with xgl?

Other than that, XGL kicks ass. Even on a mediocre card like an X300 all the effects run great. Interestingly, resizing windows is a bit slow, but thats probably a config thing.

Everyone who now has cairo-1.1.6 needs to emerge gtk+ if you haven't.. Then revdep-rebuild, and then try rebuilding compiz.. I had no problems, and I haven't had any for quite some time.. It's strange that I am always bug free, yet alot of you are having issues with similar hardware.. Guess that's the way things work.
