Just a few off the top of my head...
1) Diablo (simply for the unforgettable town music)
2) Castlevania II
3) Metroid
4) Dragon Warrior

Hello dudes !

I agree with those who ranked Castlevania's series soundtrack, SOTN especially, first or top 5. " Just listen to "Dracula's castle" track and enjoy :D

For Total Annihilation that I downloaded following your likings (likes ?) I didn't love it as much as you. In that I would not play it outside of the game, but the themes are good though.

Now I am going to retrieve Metroid, Megaman and some other console game soundtrack. Eh Rock'n Roll Racing ( Blizzard's gameplay touch already.. ), this one rocks !!

Edit: Eh I found this torrent http://thepiratebay.org/details.php?id=3322551. Best NES music and a few remix, with this I can say that Castlevania's all together beat all

Prince of Persia - the very first side scrolling one.

The music when the game started was super. And so was the abrupt scream and subsequent music whenever the prince fell to his death. Also, when he faced that mirror image double.

Good sound effects, those.

I also seem to vividly remember all the badly spoken dialogue in Half-life and the crackling voice over the marines' radio. I actually played it with the music turned off. All those loud footsteps on the aluminium lofts and concrete floors made you feel even more alone in Black Mesa.

As for a proper soundtrack: I think Halo complemented the action with the music very well.

Syndicate wars, very fitting for the cyberpunk game, also the remix of the theme played during the intro was fantastic.
Finally, in conclusion, I shall say only this

ZUN did a great job with his Touhou games.

I just wish he made them run in Linux, DirectX is evil.

I wish I remembered the music of all the different games I've played, but the best IMO are:
1) Quake I (I actually have this ST and listen to it sometimes).
2) Quake II (I actually have this ST and listen to it sometimes).
3) GTA I.
4) GTA II.
5) AOE II.

The background sounds played in Doom III are quite good, too...

The C&C games and anything by Blizzard are all excellent, but is the correct answer to this thread not "Deus Ex"???

And unless I'm mistaken, not one other person has noticed this glaring omission?

Just listening to it - Final Fantasy soundtracks!

I have recently bought the FF9 soundtrack (4 CDs), and I've downloaded the music for FFIV - FFVI.
