A little history for you youngins:
Back in the bad old days at Slashdot (were talking like 1999 here!), there would often be someone complaining about difficulty upgrading to whatever new program Slashdot had mentioned.
And someone would always reply:
Hard to install and setup? (Score:1, Troll)

The article says it's hard to setup snort. What's so hard about: apt-get install snort?
Notice the "Troll" moderation. Debian Zealots were very annoying to people, as they'd always respond with an unhelpful "It works perfectly for me on Debian." It is just as annoying as when a Mac user says, "What games can I play on my Powerbook?" and 10,000 people respond, "Get an XBOX, n00b."
Of course, the Mac people get revenge anytime someone asks a question like, "How do I easily make
DVDs on my PC?" They say, "Get a Mac, f00l."
That kind of answer never helps anyone, really. But usually there is some truth to it - Mac users don't have as many games (though they have many good ones), and Mac users to have an easier time with DVD creation.
And Gentoo's portage is really nice and very easy. But it isn't worth getting in a flame war over.
Whenever I recommend Gentoo, I always make fun of
myself, by saying that I even use "-fomit-instructions" to go even faster
