so try :

Code: Select all

rm /etc/env.d/09ati && env-update && ln -s /usr/lib/dri/r300_dri.so /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri/r300_dri.so
remove fglrx from VIDEO_CARDS section in your make.conf and re-emerge xorg-server
and reboot to be sure

xf86-input-keyboard-9999 don't wan't to apply the patch , but it compile with commented patch line (where are my leds .. :? )
EDIT: Patch is now merged in cvs but my leds don't works either.

Does anyone have problems with their keyboard layout being messed up? (anyone with a non-us keyboard layout)

Is this normal, that with ati-drivers X takes about 5% of CPU power and with open-source it's about 30-40% and everything is so slow?

what does "glxinfo | grep direct" say? If it's a yes then stuff shouldn't be too slow. You might want to compare your xorg.conf to mine and tweak it a bit. http://swisstech.net/xorg-ati-3d-beryl/xorg.conf

Yes, it's normal, that there's some constant cpu usage. That's because of the beryl window manager...

I changed "AccelMethod" "exa" to XAA
and now ewerything seems to be fine (with CPU usage)

One thing is iritating me much... I don't know where is my right mouse button... (and left is like dubble click)

And I can't activate some windows because they're immediately hiding

(I don't have beryl yet, because now I'm testing xorg on open-source drivers)

Only solution for me is to downgrade to 1.2.0
Edit: 1.2.1 works with xorg-server 1.2.99 (from portage)

http://x.org/ X11R7.2 has officially been released - I guess some things are about to change in Primozic's overlay -- plus the xeffects svn is broken at the moment... I'll wait a few days and the update again :)

Ok, I'm running beryl+aiglx+ati more or less well.
Just only one thing. When I run glxgears or any other glx program and move the window, only the window borders are moved.
The main glx action stays in same place until I stop moving the window and the glx goes to the new window place.

Does anyone know how to fix this ?

Thanks in advance. ;)

I got it to work but every time I try to log out of xfce4 it freezes. Anyone else have xfce4 working with beryl?

I followed the http://www.swisstech.net/xorg-ati-3d-beryl/ guide so I am running cutting edge xorg. I think that may be the problem. Other then that I have the normal beryl 2.0.

ya I made that guide but I uninstalled beryl from my main computer because it causes too much trouble. The guide is not going to be updated for the moment...

There are different ebuilds in the overlay -- you could try these too...

Bery freezes xorg randomly here too. Are you sure its xfce in your case? if not please try to give as much information as you can here:

A "me too" post - compiz, actually, freezes my machine with the r300 driver occasionally. Stable xorg, mesa. I pulled in the updates from this weekend (xorg 7.2 I believe .. and nice speedup, between the xorg and the cairo updates, but back on topic...), and I still get the "hanging X" syndrome.

What basically happens to me - usually there is some window in a form of fading in or out, or menus bouncing. The display will hang. My mouse pointer will stay active, but clicking on anything has no effect. If I have audacious running, it will continue to play whatever music it was playing. I don't have a way to ssh into the box locally; I haven't checked to see if that still works. Attempting to VT-switch out of X doesn't work. I can hit the power button on the box, and the system will gracefully shut down.

It happens somewhat randomly - sometimes I can run a couple of days, sometimes it happens in an hour of use. Always it happens like above.

Who knows where the problem is. I'm guessing it's r300 driver related (do a search for r300 in the forums and read through the posts).

@chance2105

You described it quite nice, my friend and others are having exact that problem! For me this is just a bug somewhere so you really should consider helping here: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9446

Maybe copy your description there and give as much hardware info as you can.

By the logging into the box with ssh is no problem here but I couldn't get any helpful debug output information...

I'm attempting to switch from XGL with ATI's proprietary driver (pretty much what I've been using from the compiz-quinnstorm days) to the r300 driver, and I noticed the link everyone provides (http://swisstech.net/xorg-ati-3d-beryl) seems to be down. Are the files from that repository still necessary, or can I get the r300 driver to play nice with Beryl using what's currently in ~x86 in portage? This is on an ATI X300m.

Thanks,
Nick

So has anyone had any luck recently getting the r300 driver to be stable with beryl? If only it wouldn't freeze, i could handle other problems.

You can try with the things from portage, but I can tell you that it won't be stable anyway with that card. :?
