It works for me very good! Thanks for this ebuild! My Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML works without a DRI patch now!

You can check the CVS log:
http://cvs.freedesktop.org/xorg/xc/Chan ... 3&view=log

Some important stuff has been fixed since my last snapshot but I'm not going to do a new one until after the -rc2 release.

I've uploaded a new overlay! It's based on 6.9-rc2 + cvs as of today and it has a lot of fixes over the last snapshot. I had to resync one patch and exclude another fixed upstream.

Unfortunately, it seems RC2 has changed it from an infinite loop to a hard lock on the PCI card. :? All I can do now is hit the reset button.

Any suggestions?

A few steps

- kernel version
- latest drm version, or use the snapshot from http://dri.freedesktop.org/snapshots
- Xorg.0.log (says something special??, try to put your drm module in debug mode (modprobe drm debug=1, not sure about this)).
cat /var/log/messages (see if it says anything unsual)

What can i say, the usual stuff :)

I have no idea. Have you searched the bugzilla? You can also sen a mail to xorg@lists.freedesktop.org and perhaps they can point you in the right direction.

I have been having trouble myself:
xorg fails to load module "bitmap". libbitmap.so exists and xorg logs complains about undefined symbol: BitmapRegisterFontFileFunctions

In fact, I have had this problem in the previous release as well. I think that it is a fonts problem; I will play around with it as soon as I finish recompiling my system (switched to gcc 4 last night because a friend dared me). Any way, this is all to inform you...I probably will file a bug, if it is not a problem with the ebuild and use flags that might have become deprecated somewhere along the line (of course you would know better if this is the case).

Ooh boy, i just tried the new Exa support of Xorg 6.9... ultra smooth transparent windows! 8)

Together with transset-df and xbindkeys, as described perfectly on the Gentoo Wiki, this is really great (and even usefull) eye candy.

So, if you happen to own one of the supported cards (older radeon, i128 or sis), give it a spin :!:

Well, I just upgraded to gentoo-sources-2.6.14-r2 (from 2.6.14) to see if that would help. It didn't seem to do much, but I'm back to an infinite loop instead of a hardlock on the PCI card. I'm using whatever DRI/DRM comes w/ X/the kernel. Xorg's log didn't seem to have anything too insightful, nor did the system log.

Warnings from X:

Code: Select all

(WW) The directory "/usr/share/fonts/truetype/" does not exist.
(WW) RADEON: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:1:0:0) found
(WW) RADEON(0): Video BIOS not detected in PCI space!

(WW) (2048x1536,Sony Multiscan E500) mode clock 340.48MHz exceeds DDC maximum 300MHz
Errors from X:

I guess I'll try the xorg mailing list...

I've looked over kernel 2.6.14 drm and althought it has significant changes, the latetst changes only appear in 2.6.15rc1. Can you use cvs DRM instead of kernel drm.

Latest of latest please. :)

By the looking of your log

2 things worry me
No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:1:0:0) found
(EE) RADEON(0): Static buffer allocation failed. Disabling DRI.
(EE) RADEON(0): At least 11700 kB of video memory needed at this resolution and depth.
It's almost has if your card isn't known, and drm couldn't found any viable memory. I need to do a little more research, but for now, i cannot help you much, important exam on monday sorry.

Just give a quick check in dmesg, in system messages..

KDE + Modular X

  • Quote

Post by brcha » Sun Nov 13, 2005 7:33 pm

Hi,
Did anybody have problems with (K)XKB and Modular X.org? I am using several xkb bindings and since I have emerged modular xorg, I cannot use them. Setxkbmap console command works fine, but if I include xkb bindings in Xorg.conf or if I try to use kxkb (kde's xkb configuration), it does nothing (doesn't even show the possible keymaps).

Does anybody have an idea why is this happening?

I can't get nvidia drivers work anymore. I emerged latest unstable nvidia-glx from portage and did "eselect opengl set nvidia" but it didn't work either. There's no errors during emerging process but it won't autoload nvidia module and I can't even modprobe nvidia. it says:

Code: Select all

FATAL: Error inserting nvidia (/lib/modules/2.6.14-nitro2/video/nvidia.ko): No such device
It looks like nvidia-kernel is missing or something but I re-emerged it too... When using "nv" driver in xorg.conf everything works fine. Any thoughts?

Nvidia X binary driver cannot work if you don't have the kernel module loaded. Try looking /var/db/pkg/media-video/nvidia-kernel-.../CONTENTS to see if it installed nvidia.ko kernel module into /lib/modules/2.6.14-nitro2/video/nvidia.ko. If it hasn't, try re-emerging media-video/nvidia-kernel.

Ok it seems that problem is based on nitro-sources since everything works great with vanilla-sources. I'll try to compile it again and see how it works. Thanks for your help.

xorg-x11 6.9-rc2 + CVS works fine here

  • Quote

Post by martin.k » Mon Nov 14, 2005 9:15 am

Xorg-x11 6.9-rc2 + CVS works fine here. I can't make X-Video Motion Compensation to work on my nVidia GF3 - nvidia binary drivers.
Xorg log says it's loading XvMC but mplayer and xine seem to ignore it. I've even installed XvMC wrapper from via unichrome project, but that does not do anything.
Do I have to load XvMC in some special way? Or is it configurable through Xorg.conf?

P.S.
Apart from the above complaining Xorg works stable and quite fast.

Anybody else having problems with the whiteglass cursor theme?
I use this theme at size 16. But when moving over some applications like firefox, scite, evolution, ... (gtk2 apps?) the size gets bigger.
I don't have this problem with the Industrial theme that i'm using now, but i think whiteglass is so much nicer.

I only tried the latest xorg-x11 version (6.9_pre20051111).

Composite usage renders box unusable within 4-5 hours...
Strange thing is, it does not leak memory, only starts hogging 100% CPU...

I had that problem too but it went away with recent snapshot of xorg and xfwm4 (using the builtin composite manager). I don't know which fixed it.

Edit:
Actually I'm not sure if it's gone. I just haven't experienced it in a while.
