I'm using XChat right now cause it does seem the easiest, but I can't figure out for the life of me how to navigate through an fserve with ls and cd and such, because XChat doesn't open a new window and I see no option to open a new window. Any idea how to do this? otherwise I guess I'll go back to bitchx which is kinda tough to use when you're not an irc expert.

Personally I really like mIRC, but that's a windows only client. So for Linux I'd have to say x-chat, since it's really similar to mIRC, and I'm too used to a GUI to switch to irssi which is nice for what it is also.

Chalking another one up for the irssi + screen crew :D I get the best of both worlds: transparency, a console client, and I don't lose my session of X crashes/needs to be restarted.

xchat for me.

I tried gaim, but it's too ugly for chat. I love it for instant messaging though.

irssi... (I voted ages ago but apparently never commented.) I've recently fallen in love with /ignore -replies :D
Former Gentoo user; switched to Kubuntu 7.04 when I got sick of waiting on gcc. Chance of thread necro if you reply now approaching 100%...

I use bath xchat and irssi, since I haven't found any balance betwen usability (xchat is a bit more userfriendly and nice to look at) and availability (since I don't have access to irc in school I have to use ssh -> screen -> irssi)

It lacks a fancy poll, but polls never have enough options anyway.
