Official thread: "zen-sources" - Part III

This forum covers all Gentoo-related software not officially supported by Gentoo. Ebuilds/software posted here might harm the health and stability of your system(s), and are not supported by Gentoo developers. Bugs/errors caused by ebuilds from overlays.gentoo.org are covered by this forum, too.

DAMN !

I wanted to test-copy 2.6.25-zen0 sources to another folder and it HARDLOCKED

unfortunately the dmesg-file is gone too, fortunately this saved the data's/partition's life

reiser4 is a data-saver , atomic copy ftw :)

ok, the error message isn't a big deal, it pretty similar to the already posted ones with the rwlock

currently diffing reiser4-trees from 2.6.25-zen0 to 2.6.25-zen1_preview3 I'll try that reiser4-version & let you know if it works

try copying a kernel-sources directory to your reiser4-partition & compile it (the kernel) whether it hardlocks or not :P

ok, I'm trying the reiser4-version from 2.6.25-zen0, then I'll completely delete the zen-sources repository & re-sync hopefully one of those two will fix it

obviously (?) it's that version,

there are however noticable differences (?)

I think deleting the zen-sources repository & re-syncing should be the best to do ...

 and off I go

one question while it still compiles:

does concurrent-pagecache also include lockless pagecache ?

afaik there were 2 performance enhancing sets included:

concurrent radix tree & lockless pagecache

if yes are those differences in reiser4-code between zen0 and zen1 (at least for me - see diff above) related to one of those patchsets and/or modifications waninkoko made ?

thanks

yes, concurrent-pagecache includes lockless pagecache iirc.
If waninkoko did this right, then yes the changes are related to them.

Please add support for eeepc specific hw modules if possible. It has 4 such modules.
1. atl2 network driver. I've heard that it will be included in main tree as a part of unified atlx module, but donno when it' gonna happen.
Patch for adding atl2 support to kernel can be found here http://people.redhat.com/csnook/atl2/at ... .patch.bz2
It applies fine on gentoo-sources 2.6.25-r1
2. eeepc-linux - this modules adds support for controlling fan and reporting system temperature.
http://eeepc-linux.googlecode.com/files ... 0.2.tar.gz
It compiles fine with gentoo-sources 2.6.25-r1
3. Patched asus_acpi kernel module
http://www.geeentoo.com/patches/asus_acpi_eee.patch.bz2 this patch adds support for controlling eeepc hardware
It also applies fine on latest gentoo-sources 2.6.25-r1
4. patched madwifi module, but i'm not sure if its possible to include it zen-sources at all

rmh3093 I'm calling you out!

Back in the day when KDE was crashing all the time did you say move to a real OS?

Pain. Yes, pain is what separates the troopers from the men. By the way thanks kernelOfTruth for looking out for your own. Don't give up. We are gonna make it out of the trenches one day.

Will the Catalyst 8.4 drivers compile with any of the zen-preview kernels?

I really hope that people are joking and/or have never looked at the code when they say/imply that ricer4 is the future ...

does that driver work with 2.6.25 non zen???? i dont think so, we are not about to revert patches to make that driver work

... and actually I bet there is 3d support working in with radeonhd before 2.6.26 is out, you should switch to an opensource driver

We have r500 DRI working in Mesa git w/TCL. All we need now is the fragment shader...

i applied your patch and did as you said (extracted linux-2.6.25.tar.bz2 to /usr/portage and compiled it) and the kernel did not hang.

I did get a RSS message that zen1 is out, but no patch.

prizident wrote:Please add support for eeepc specific hw modules if possible. It has 4 such modules.
1. atl2 network driver. I've heard that it will be included in main tree as a part of unified atlx module, but donno when it' gonna happen.
Patch for adding atl2 support to kernel can be found here http://people.redhat.com/csnook/atl2/at ... .patch.bz2
It applies fine on gentoo-sources 2.6.25-r1
2. eeepc-linux - this modules adds support for controlling fan and reporting system temperature.
http://eeepc-linux.googlecode.com/files ... 0.2.tar.gz
It compiles fine with gentoo-sources 2.6.25-r1
3. Patched asus_acpi kernel module
http://www.geeentoo.com/patches/asus_acpi_eee.patch.bz2 this patch adds support for controlling eeepc hardware
It also applies fine on latest gentoo-sources 2.6.25-r1
4. patched madwifi module, but i'm not sure if its possible to include it zen-sources at all
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_Asus_Ee ... 06EG_patch
I have added these patches to git, under the branch eeepc, based on 2.6.25.1. Please test, and also please ask your upstream to port your asus_acpi patch to the newer asus-laptop module, as asus_acpi is officially deprecated.

Oh, and I had to guess a lot at the modules that eeepc depends on. Please test and tell me if you cannot build or insmod eeepc.

And, of course, madwifi isn't added yet due to being on a different branch. I'm trying to figure out a nice way to do it.

master-new moved to branch master. 2.6.25-zen1 patch will be available shortly. In the meantime, git is your friend ;-)

btw, -zen1 contains 2.6.25.1

I'm just curious why "Whine" and not "Wine"? Maybe it is some kind of joke I can't understand.

Does the official 2.6.25-zen1 contain the ipw3945 driver?
