What I posted just before WAS an alternative download linked (the magnet stuff is a link, although I couldn't actually make it an url because of phpbb). And yes, sorry, I think it's Azureus only. But then again, that's 'cos I found no other sources than inside azureus' tracker independent network anyways.

Wow, I'm downloading with 10 kB per second. :(

Ok, I found in Google a new link for the 2.40 DVD torrent. It seems that this torrent is linking to the openbits tracker. Here it is: http://www.linuxtracker.org/torrents-details.php?id=210

Sorry men, I'm addressing every problem you have. I'm working on web site restyling (compatible with Konqueror and Safari) and then on tracker problems. In the meantime, if you want to see my progress --> http://lxnay.no-ip.org/new_site/ . I'll return to work on it on Monday. I don't know when I have the surgery participation, but I should be at home in one day. After that, I have to stay to bed for one or two weeks.

Ok. Ive finished downloading your live-dvd. But I have still a few questions. For example, my TFT doesnt work with your pre-defined refresh rates. I always have to edit the xorg.conf manually to get X working. Isnt there any boot parameter to configure the refresh rate up from the beginning? Another thing, which is kinda annoying IMHO is the slow auto-repeat setting in the terminal.

So far,

Looks like whoever made this change to the nameserver's config wanted to disable open-bits.org. Most likely, the network has been closed, run out of bandwith or hosted torrents/files in the wrong country...

EDIT: BTW- Good new homepage, lxnay!

IF you need a tracker for releases, you can always use: http://linuxtracker.org/announce.php as the announce url, then upload the torrent to linuxtracker.org.

Its an open tracker for LInux ISOs, you just have to register to upload to keep track of things.

Thanks!

Stability problems with AMD 64 x2?

  • Quote

Post by ycUygB1 » Thu Sep 15, 2005 12:43 pm

I'm wondering if you would recommend RR for AMD64 x2 users,
or if it is just stable for non-SMP.

I had write problems after about 10 Megabytes just trying to download the stage to a reiser4 disk,
but no such problems when using other file systems.

Actually, it doesn't sport a SMP kernel.
This should be fixed in the next version.

When you're using a resier4 fs from anothersystem, it's a good idea to do a
fsck.reiser4 --fix --build-fs --build-sb to totally increase compatibility.
I found that different versions / patches for reiser4, for one, used different superblock allocation methods.
This was the primary cause for desync / problems with that kind of reiser4 use.
Anyway, your X2 should work fine, but it will just use CPU0.
Hope that helped.

Well, for $575 I'd like to use both CPUs.
I'm going to just use reiser 3.6.

Almost done pulling off 1.40 LiveDVD

  • Quote

Post by theFred » Sat Sep 17, 2005 8:25 pm

I'm about 6% from completion, is there somewhere I can post it, I don't have enough space or bandwidth to do so myself. But considering how many people are looking for it, and its taken almost a month of it downloading at dialup speeds (on dsl) to get this far.

Let me know,

theFred

lxnay I have some very good news. My good friend Davetha ( you might have seen him in #gentoo-amd64 ) is attending York University studying computer science in Toronto, Canada and has informed me that the faculty there has agreed to allow him to install and maintain a gentoo server in the university datacenter which will be connected to multiple Cogent gigE fiber to host mirror space for opensource projects. As soon as i can i will gladly see to having an http ftp mirror of all your distributables hosted at the university on the server. I think tomorrow or possibly by mid week i could have this done. I will most certainly keep you posted. graci ? ;)

Well, Ali3nx, we appreciate your offer.
It sure will help, getting some fast mirrors.
I'm on a 1000/100 and have already placed the LiveDVD on my FTP.
But still, it would help distributing the bandwidth and sys resources.

lxnay:
It would be great staying away from morph-sources, since many people keep getting superblock corruption with reiser4.
What I do is custom patching on pure vanilla kernel. And that works best. Don't forget SMP this time.
;]
Also, as I have recommended before, try adding fluxbox. It's < 1Mb, FAST and stable.
Nobody wants big eye candy and you can always save the system resources. Even if you have a devilish machine.
I myself am on a dual opteron system, but bootstrapping from a livecd always needs every ounce of power.
Anyway, even IF you want eyecandy, it WOULD save a LOT of space, enabling only 1 WM.
KDE, Gnome, XFCE4, whatever.
Take into account that most users prefer the fast but powerful features of Midnight Commander.
It also doesn't require much space.
As for file editing, why not include VIM?
It's a very good editor, and most people would feel restricted getting access to nano only.

As for myself, I can provide you with binary packages of most of the needed files, optimized for stability AND speed.
You would just need emerge -k ...

You already have my email, but I'm mostly available on jabber.
adwin@jabber.autocom.pl

Hope you take the critics positively.

I'm halfway done with my own liveDVD too. Just need adjusting some scripts.
