i thought /etc/modules.d/alsa was written when you run alsaconf?

Do I need to manually edit this file?

thanks.

I noticed that alsaconf doesn't generate all the lines that we have from a manual /etc/modules.d/alsa setup.

Code: Select all

 # device_mode is no longer valid, according to http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-397730.html
 # These 2 options are specific to the SB Live 5.1 - do not include them with other cards
 options snd major=116 cards_limit=1
 options snd-emu10k1 index=0 extin=0x0003 extout=0x1f03
PaulBredbury, where did you get this section from? I don't have that with mine, but no problems. With so many different SB Live 5.1 cards, maybe it is specific to only some of them.

The bottom one's from the comments for the SB Live (with digital output). I forget where the top one came from - I've been using it for about 3 years... Anyway, I've just rebooted without them with no side-effects, so I've removed them from the list :)

It's frustratingly unclear as to which configuration options need to be specified, as opposed to ALSA being able to self-configure. joshight1, it works for me anyway :)

tried other conf file still getting errors. The modules must not be loading correctly or something...

Nov 20 19:34:39 albs kobject_register failed for snd_seq (-17) , snd_timer, snd, snd_pcm_oss, etc.

I saw a specific thread referring to this error, I'll see if I can find it again. (It wasn't in the gentoo forums.)

There's always different things to try. Different kernel version, using alsa-driver instead of the kernel's alsa...
