thanks again ... I asked if it is globally enabled because maybe we need "telemetry" also in other packages, e.g. ->

This afternoon I added the line USE="activities speech telemetry" to /etc/portage/make.conf and did a world update.

Emerge rebuilt 9 packages successfully, including KMail.

Is this, what you expected me to try?

Yes ... and thank you for this check.

(If you dont like these Use-flags you can remove them and just do another world-update ... and if you have really time ... and fun ... you could try ... BEFORE removing the Use-flags ... to boot the old 6.18.12 kernel and do there an "emerge -1v kmail" ... would be interesting if it works now, or again an error).

Sorry. The older kernel was removed after the update with --depclean
