Merged six (6) posts starting from [post=8279826]8279826[/post], split from [topic=1077662]Unable to start X as normal user[/topic] which is a bit older, and while related, not /exactly/ about the same issue (the recent change that enables several people to experience it right now).
Kindest of regardses.

Installed slim, set xorg-server to -suid and it all works.

(Has xorg-server been set back to default to +suid?)

Unknown still: is how, or if it is possible to make running xorg optional and to have xorg-server -suid at the sane time.

If you're running a DM or not running the modesetting driver or you're using systemd then you should be able to run -suid.

Otherwise stick with suid.

Note: In looking at the LATEST ebuild, suid is now back as an option and set on by default.
But the logic or suid|suid-wrapper is still screwy and still tangled up with the systemd use flag.
