If you're running a DM or not running the modesetting driver or you're using systemd then you should be able to run -suid.
Otherwise stick with suid.
Note: In looking at the LATEST ebuild, suid is now back as an option and set on by default.
But the logic or suid|suid-wrapper is still screwy and still tangled up with the systemd use flag.
