Hi guys.
I've just downloaded Gentoo 10.1 AMD64 and I'm impressed

! Great LiveCD^WLiveDVD.
I've a few comments though -- don't know if they've already been made. First I've run the DVD inside a KVM machine (1GB virtual RAM) and I must admit it's rather slow to boot. Is some support for KVM guest possible at that stage? Second I think it'd be cool to add a few shortcuts in Konqueror's favourites instead of a blank list.
Just my 2¢.
I'll try on real-life machine later on.
Keep up the work guys!

I tried to download the iso from the link below, but the site says the i
http://bouncer.gentoo.org/fetch/gentoo- ... 952/amd64/
bounces me to:
http://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/os/linux/ ... 0926-1952/
and the iso is:
Code: Select all
NOT FOUND
The requested URL /pub/os/linux/gentoo/releases/amd64/10.0_pre20090926-1952/ was not found on this server.
Where do I download the livedvd-x86-x86_64 iso?
Thank you Gentoo! Happy decade!

Thank you, FYI the image will boot really fast if you boot it from a usb device.

I've found a couple of things, and I don't know if it is just my hardware or is a bug.
First, I only get one console window and no X windows unless I use the no frame buffer option. I've only got X working once, and I suspect that it was when I used the no framebuffer option.
Second, the CD seems to be read over and over again while the system is just sitting there. I don't know what it's reading.
My system is a Toshiba Tecra laptop, with an nvidia graphics card.
Does anyone else get this as well?

Something like it. When X starts I get to see the desktop for about 2 secs then it goes black and flickers.
The solution was to boot gentoo-nofb nox, set a root password then edit /etc/conf.d/xdm. Substitute gdm for kdm then run /etc/init.d/xdm start. This time the gnome desktop should appear.

Unable to download LiveDVD

I can't download the .iso for either the 64- or the 32-bit versions from any of the mirrors.

In every case, the download "starts" but then will not proceed. I've tried Firefox, Opera, and wget... same behavior in all of them. I can download all of the other small files located on the mirrors normally, and my network is working just fine in every other way.
What could possibly be wrong?

Is there a torrent available? I have 50GB of free space on my computer... I use Ubuntu 9.04.

Thats all rather vague, post the output of trying to download using wget and someone might be able to provide an insight into the problem.

Code: Select all
$ wget http://mirrors.nl.kernel.org/gentoo//releases/amd64/10.1/livedvd-amd64-multilib-10.1.iso
--2009-11-03 03:48:47-- http://mirrors.nl.kernel.org/gentoo//releases/amd64/10.1/livedvd-amd64-multilib-10.1.iso

As I said, the download starts, but all that happens is that the ETA keeps increasing... no data is being downloaded. I've tried this from another computer in the house (Windows 2000) and it's the same thing. This exact behavior is found from any of the mirrors. Obviously it's some sort of problem on my end, but I have no idea what it might be when I have no issues with any other sites/downloads.
ATTENTION 10.2 in the works

As we build the new Gentoo 10.2 release media we are looking for more package suggestions. Please make sure you have looked over the package list located at
http://omploader.org/vMmdodw before making any new suggestions. Make your suggestions in the "Category/Packagename USEFLAGS".
The 10.2 image should be available in the coming week so stay tune. P.S This image will come with a kernel that supports reiser4 and aufs plus support for staging drivers for those with newer wireless cards i.e ralink and such.
We hope that this livedvd will be unique in that you'll be able to use portage inside of it with the help of aufs. More features will come as time progress.
LiveDVD doesn't work with Radeon X800XT

I can't get the LiveDVD to load properly on my ATI ALL-IN-WONDER X800XT.
I have a VGA monitor, which as I have come to understand, ATI sees the VGA port as the secondary card.
The DVD boots fine with nox, but I cannot configure x to work properly no matter what I do.
I've had gentoo installed before several years ago, but never bothered installing x.

Did you try with the vesa driver?

I would also try with the Driver "radeon"

Tried with the vesa driver both with and without frame buffer. No luck.
I think it's trying to go out of range of what my monitor can display, even with me forcing it to 1024X768 32bpp 60Hz
