Here's another thread about nvidia not compiling with .24 (vanilla in this case):http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-47 ... ml#4728548, but we don't have a solution, yet. Could the missing "arch/i386" be a problem as stated in the linked comment?
try:
1) sabayon overlay -> nvidia-drivers
2) paludis
3) chmod -R go+rX . (inside /usr/src/linux/), then emerge nvidia-drivers
4) ???

not yet :wink:

I left amd/ati for some time and I'm pretty satisfied with their (nV's) driver-support & -quality

failing in such basic things like higher resolution above 1024x768 on notebooks, throughout working condition of the drivers are a K.O. argument for purchase of amd-products

even though they promised to improve - it's only doing so in baby-steps

I can't wait 4-6 years until I am able to use a device to its full potential, then after that it's already too old / slow / ...

I'm having a centrino duo and having problems with wireless.

I understood this kernel has iwlwifi patches, so compiled them and emerged net-wireless/iwl3945-ucode.

At first, the card was working, but soon it dropped speed to ~100kb/s.

Restarted the card and it stopped working:

Code: Select all

# /etc/init.d/net.wlan0 restart
 * Stopping wlan0
 *   Bringing down wlan0
 *     Shutting down wlan0 ...                                                                                            [ ok ]
 *     Stopping wpa_cli on wlan0 ...                                                                                      [ ok ]
 *     Stopping wpa_supplicant on wlan0 ...                                                                               [ ok ]

Compile error for TuxOnIce...

Code: Select all

kernel/power/disk.c:349: error: redefinition of ‘resume_target_kernel’
kernel/power/disk.c:302: error: previous definition of ‘resume_target_kernel’ was here
It appears this is just an accidental copy and paste of the ‘resume_target_kernel’ function. I can't tell any difference between the 2. Deleting one of them allows it to compile.

Odd, never had such problems with fglrx, well I'm (forced to) using radeon now instead.

nvidia-drivers have compiled fine so far with .24 too, though.

kEiNsTeiN have you tried beta nvidia-drivers (169.04). I had problems with drivers from portage, but it has gone after switching to beta.

uhm...

I tried the 100.14.23 one...:

Code: Select all

x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers
     Available versions:  71.86.01 96.43.01 100.14.09 (~)100.14.11 100.14.19 {M}(~)100.14.23 {acpi gtk kernel_linux multilib}

edit: layman-update-remote revealed those ebuild inside sabayon. is 169 beta and 100. isnt?, anyhow, emerging right now:

Code: Select all

[ebuild  N    ] x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-169.07-r10  USE="-acpi -distribution -gtk (-multilib)" 9,870 kB [1]

Total: 1 package (1 new), Size of downloads: 9,870 kB
Portage tree and overlays:
 [0] /usr/portage
 [1] /usr/portage/local/layman/sabayon
edit2: pehop SWEET! it worked :) thanks...

sry for doubleposting, but this is unrelated.

are there news about the vmware modules? tried that any-any patch, but it doesnt patch properly or somehting...

needed to link /etc/vmware-tools to /etc/vmware so it could find the locations file... but then there werde some binaries missing... starting to get the feeling any-any-patches are for the workstation or player, not for tools...

suggestions?

Hello there!!!

I've just installed zen-sources on my computer, and now I'm trying to re-emerge the drivers I need.

I can't install two drivers, svgalib and gspcav1, kemu and nvidia-drivers are installed without problems.

This is the output for gspcav1, but the problem is the same for both:

Darksidex25: gpsca driver is already included and latest version (released a few weeks ago) is the only one that works with .24 kernels.

Y de paso te contesto tambien en español que estoy ya cansado de hablar en ingles xD

El driver gspca ya viene incluido y adeams la ultima version que publicaron hace unas semanas es la unica que funciona con los kernels de la rama .24

I have a boot problem with 2.6.24-rc7-zen2. I get messages (after message about freed memory):
init[1] general protection eip:80cbb89 esp:bff20b84 error:0
mixed with
printk: 5224750 messages suppressed
The number in the printk message is slightly varying.

The messages are repeated endlessly. What's wrong?

and i have no clue about whats going on here ... this is with latest zen2. I thought suspend or tuxonice were the problem but apparently its somewhere else. Any hint ?

oh, and btw, make clean doesnt work here unless you are building for um :P

cheers

Yeah i have that, too. But i have an iwl4965, sometimes its speed drops to around 80kbyte/s no matter how good the link is and then after trying to reconnect the card doesn't react anymore.

Only solution so far -> unload/reload module.

It's a bug in the driver, not in zen-sources.

Yes, sometimes iwlwifi transfer rates drop terribly. Have a little script to restart my wlan, which I use have to use quite often, unfortunately:

Code: Select all

/etc/init.d/net.wlan0 stop
modprobe -r iwl3945
modprobe iwl3945

compiling zen-sources- 2.6.24_rc7-r2 fails with this error:

Code: Select all

kernel/power/tuxonice_builtin.c:189: error: 'pm_chain_head' undeclared here (not in a function)

make[1]: *** [kernel/power] Error 2
make: *** [kernel] Error 2
Edit : making CONFIG_TOI_CORE=y has fixed it.
Anyway it's all the same at the end...
Need help to get it working: "x-fi surround 5.1"

Well, this means that something is wrong here, what is the last version of that driver? Is newer than the version on portage? Because my driver is the newest on portage, and you can see the result :-(

El driver gspca ya viene incluido y adeams la ultima version que publicaron hace unas semanas es la unica que funciona con los kernels de la rama .24
Ja, ja, ja, vale, mejor ;-) Gracias

could those of you who use reiser4 with this kernel give a short status-report how it's going with

- pure reiser4 (mkfs.reiser4)
- cryptcompress lzo1 / gzip1

since I'm planning on migrating back to it

many thanks in advance

i think the problem with reiser4 is baselayout2
dunno, it just doesn't mount reiser4 partitions.
this is a strange strange world.

That was the problem. I created an ebuild on my local overlay for the newest version of the driver, and it works.
Thank you

And what about svgalib?

Are you sure that you want to go back to Reiser4? Now that the project seems officially dead.
