Heh, there was just a post about this on Gentoo's front page.

http://ben.liveforge.org/2009/06/04/gentoo-dying

What is dead is Gentoo's PR department. Ubuntu has pretty much owned that field since its inception.

In fact, but Gentoo will "die" only when the portage tree will not be updated for a week :P

And for the PR team, then GMN should return one day I hope, but the main page is updated regulary.

Considering the current state of the newsletter project, anyone who really wants the newsletter to be published, especially on a regular and continuing basis, should probably contact the sole remaining member of that project offering assistance, to be provided on a regular and continuing basis.

If Gentoo really were to disappear it would be a very, very sad day for me (and probably for a LOT of other people). Gentoo really got me hooked to Linux (I started with Gentoo). I have to admit, at first it wasn't easy (not the installation part, but the troubleshooting when something went wrong), but the more I used it, the more I "fell in love". Sure, Gentoo is probably not everyone's distro (mainly, you need to have the time to learn) but if it happens to be the one that "fit" you, then it's really hard to imagine what you could use if it were not here anymore. I think, Gentoo is my soul-mate :D
A big huge enormous thank you to the people all over the world who make it possible, I really hope, some day I will know enough to do be able to help too
Long live Gentoo !!! :)
"Please, forgive my bad English"
Gentoo made me love using my computer again. Thank you to the Gentoo devs and more generally to all the people who makes GNU/Linux possible :)

I don't think Gentoo is dying but without being able to search the forums properly (ie with google) my patience for problems with my box is wearing thinner.

It seems everyone "knows" that search doesn't work, but no-one seems to actually be *doing* anything about it. I'm amazed that all sorts of software bugs get fixed within a few hours but the gentoo forums (the distro's biggest strength IMO) have been deliberately crippled for months.

EDIT: so at somepoint in the last few days googlebot has been let back in. Wooohoooo! Thank you whoever fixed it :D
