I got impatient and forced this in. I'm happy to give it two thumbs up...I had no problems at all.

One question...I thought one of the improvements upstream was when you mark an email todo in kontact it shows up in the todo list. It's not happening here -- should it be?

I'm trying to activate the flash plugin it in konqueror.
How exactly does one do that?
I wasn't able to find any means from konqueror's "Settings" menu.

As you can see its installed in konqueror -

Code: Select all

Shockwave Flash Shockwave Flash 9.0 r64 libkmplayerpart.so application/x-shockwave-flash - Shockwave Flash (swf)
EDIT: I had to emerge kde-base/nsplugins to get the "Plugins" tab in konqueror's "Settings" menu.
Still no luck activating the flash plugin though :?
Gentoo is the stick-shift of Linux.
You work it manually, it has somewhat better performance, but it's really for the fun of it.

How long before this gets marked stable? Haven't noticed too many people posting with problems with it.

Yeah, is there any reason KDE 3.5.8 isn't considered stable yet? It's been 2.5 months since it was released.

The answer is as short as always: It's ready, when it's ready.

Haha ok. It doesn't really matter, just curious. KDE4 is almost out anyway.

KDE 4 is nowhere ready for enduser consumption. You've to wait for some KDE 4.1 or 4.2 version for that. But for early adopters, not caring about missing features compared to KDE 3.5, (hopefully not a whole lot of) all sort of annoying bugs, it's fine.

So after seeing all the stuff about KDE4 and how it will be a few years until it gets to the functionality of KDE3.5.8, I've decided to go ahead and install the latest ~arch of the KDE branch. Except now I need help: How DO I install it anyway? i.e. I tried:

emerge kdebase-3.5.8-r6

and got the "no package atom" error. So I tried a few other things, and still nothing. If I simply emerge kdebase, it wants to install 3.5.7, but i want to be cutting edge and install the latest kde.

So my question is:

How can I install the latest of the 3.5.x branch,
and how can I make it so that if a newer version is available (i.e. 3.5.9 or something), emerge -uNDv world will upgrade to that version regardless of whether or not it's in the tree as "stable" ?
I am not a Linux Guru, but a n00b with a lot of questions. :)

Did you put the relevant packages in /etc/portage/package.keywords?
