I don't usually listen to music during the installation of gentoo.

2005.0 worked always fine.
However,( and I do believe you are one of them ;) ) ppl call their system GEntoo2005.1 even though that really is meaningless I was just clarifying

after changing the link for make.profile
and updating the system
how do we verify that we indeed are using 2005.1 and that there is nothing "stale" on the system

also on that note how do we verify that nothing is missing or messed up
other than the obvious revde-rebuild
since there could have been problems that occurred when doing the upgrade to 2005.1

Same as any other package upgrade. Really at this point it seems like all the changes in 2005.1 were in the LiveCDs. Your system packages would've upgraded regardless of whether or not you were using the 2005.1 profile so if Gentoo is already installed it's just another day of updates nothing else.

libstdc++ anyone? Those 2005.1 livecds are a regression in all aspects. Makes you wonder if they even try to USE them before release...

Bah, use Knoppix then. There's no need for such things on a gentoo install livecd.
