It says: "Most probably there was a problem loading the plugin"

Happened to me too tonight. You are probably still emerging kde 3.2 beta2 as we speak so your kdeartwork is still pointing to the old beta1 libraries. Patience my friend patience

Nothin compiles like a hyper-threading 2.8 overclocked to 3.7gz respectively...at this rate i should be done with a round trip of say 5-6 hours ;)

I am getting the exact same error. I did however notice the following error earlier in the configure:
Code:

checking linux/quota.h usability... no
checking linux/quota.h presence... yes
configure: WARNING: linux/quota.h: present but cannot be compiled
configure: WARNING: linux/quota.h: check for missing prerequisite headers?
configure: WARNING: linux/quota.h: proceeding with the preprocessor's result
configure: WARNING:     ## ------------------------------------ ##
configure: WARNING:     ## Report this to bug-autoconf@gnu.org. ##
configure: WARNING:     ## ------------------------------------ ##
checking for linux/quota.h... yes

Not sure if this helps with the problem or just brings up another one.

(edit)
Well, i managed to improve the error message to:
Code:

...
checking if lilo-config should be compiled... yes
checking if secpolicy should be compiled... yes
configure: creating ./config.status

Good - your configure finished. Start make now

!!! ERROR: kde-base/kdeadmin-3.2.0_beta2 failed.
!!! Function kde_src_compile, Line 137, Exitcode 2
!!! died running emake, kde_src_compile:make

by upgrading my automake to the ~x86 version.

(lets edit it one more time)
I also upgraded my autoconf, now it is happily chugging along :D

After 12 hours of compiling, all is up and running perfectly!!
I find is more usable than the beta 1!! I've a problem:

Where is Juk???
When I compile kdemultimedia I get this warning:

Code:
**************************************************
*
* JuK will not be built without TagLib.  TagLib
* replaces the id3lib dependancy.  See the notice
* below for where to find TagLib.
*
**************************************************
**************************************************
*
* You do not seem to have GStreamer and the
* KDE GStreamer bindings installed.  Without these
* aRts output will be used exclusively.
*
* You can get these bindings from kdenonbeta/gst
* or from the JuK homepage.
*
* JuK supports GStreamer output but will also
* work with aRts.
*
**************************************************

You're missing TagLib.  Without TagLib KDE will not support ID3v2
tags in mp3 files.  You can find taglib either in KDE's CVS under
kdeextragear-2/taglib or at http://ktown.kde.org/~wheeler/taglib

I've compiled gstreamer with no error, but:

-)taglib 0.96 don't want to compile!!!
-)KDE GStreamer bindings is only in CVS

Someone have solved?

Thanks in advance

Gandalf

I can't help with the gstreamer error, but I installed taglib from the tarball you can download from the URL given in the error message and juk seems to be compiling as I type. Remember to configure taglib with
Code:

./configure --prefix=/usr/kde/3.2

or kdemultimedia won't find it. I got a configure error the first time I tried to make taglib, but just run
Code:

aclocal

in the directory as it suggests and it will work fine.

I'm not sure about the version, but I've emerged taglib from the latest ebuild availible (masked, I suppose) and compiled with no problems at all. Then I compiled with no worries even KDE CVS post-beta2 (remember that beta2 freeze was on friday, if I'm not wrong)

I can't find taglib in portage!!??
I've also tried the clue of BenjyD_UK, but it return me always the same error!

Code:
make
cd . && \
  /bin/sh /root/taglib-0.96/admin/missing --run automake-1.7 --foreign  Makefile
Can't locate object method "path" via package "Request" at /usr/share/autoconf/Autom4te/C4che.pm line 69, <GEN1> line 111.

configure.in: required file `./install-sh' not found
configure.in: required file `./mkinstalldirs' not found
configure.in: required file `./missing' not found
make: *** [Makefile.in] Error 1

And i have
Code:
sys-devel/autoconf-2.58 *
sysys-devel/m4-1.4-r1 *
s-devel/automake-1.7.8 *

Thanks

Everything else (kde, quanta, ...) is working nicely... anyone can help me with the above?

BTW, how the f*** can I make superkaramba themes to stay BELOW the windows instead on top of them?? It's the first time I try to use karamba so I'm a bit lost...:D

Gandalf98: You're right, there's no ebuild for taglib, so probably Portage emerged them from CVS..cause for my first KDE 3.2CVS install I used precompiled packages from iamlarryboy...now I'm compleely emerging all KDE from CVS thanks to the updated scripts in there :) (my PC is crunching code lines at home, now)

UPDATE (solved): it appears to be an error in kdebase-3.2.0_beta2/work/kdebase-3.1.94/kdm/kfrontend/genkdmconf.c At about line 301, there is a function definition of "mkdirp" that includes some strange code trying to replicate "mkdir -p" ... commenting out those lines (the variable defintions and that first for loop) fixes the problem. These lines are unnecessary--the directories already exist and have appropriate permissions. I don't like the idea that it tries to go through and chmod every subdirectory starting with /usr anyway! If any devs and/or C gurus can back me up on this, I'd appreciate it.[/b]

If you could file a bug at bugs.kde.org to this regard, I think it would help. We had a similiar problem not too long ago with this exact same thing and it turned out to be an error in the sandbox. This problem, I think is different. mkdirp in genkdmconf attempts to make each directory up to the one that you're in... ie:

mkdir /home
mkdir /home/caleb
mkdir /home/caleb/.tmp
...

If it returns with an -EEXIST, then it just continues. However, my guess is that in your case there's a permission error. It probably needs to be fixed on kde's side.

I've solved using the taglib cvs ebuild, that is in the caleb package!!
In the ebuild of kdemultimedia there is the USE: gstreamer! So why there's not the ebuild for KDE GStreamer bindings?

Thanks

Yet another 'refuse to merge' problem, this time it's with kdeaddons:

Code:

yanos,
edit the following file:
/usr/lib/libSDL.la
under "dependency_libs=" you will no doubt see a bunch of "-pthread",
nuke all of them and add "-lpthread"
Code:

dependency_libs=' -lpthread -lm -ldl -lasound -L/usr/X11R6/lib -lX11 -lXext -lvga'

yours may differ, but the idea is to remove all instances of "-pthread" and replace them with one "-lpthread"
HTH
