Cannot get Pipewire to work on RPI headless

Gentoo on all things ARM. Both 32 bit and 64 bit.

Cannot get Pipewire to work on RPI headless

I am currently using PulseAudio on my RPI5 through an HDMI cable running headless for my Kodi system. I cannot get Pipewire working. I haven't emerged Kodi at add PipeWire as I am not sure if it will work based on the wpctl output as I assume no audio devices and sinks being listed means I don't have devices to output audio. I am also using openrc

Code: Select all

kodi@localhost ~ $ wpctl status
PipeWire 'pipewire-0' [1.4.2, pipewire@localhost, cookie:2492900902]
└─ Clients:
        31. WirePlumber [1.4.2, kodi@localhost, pid:1913]
        39. WirePlumber [export] [1.4.2, kodi@localhost, pid:1913]
        43. wpctl [1.4.2, kodi@localhost, pid:2497]

I am not sure how to setup the start of PW and WP since I am headless. I have tried these init.d files https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-8 ... tml?sid=. WP and PW starts but I don't get any audio. I tried pauctl list but I get a permission denied errors but I assume this is a result of not having any devices. I also followed the PW Gentoo wikipedia to setup PW. I am not sure what else to try.

thegrind,
PulseAudio on my RPI5 through an HDMI cable running headless for my Kodi system
All the Pis power down the HDMI outputs when no display is detected. It's a firmware feature.
Further, the snd driver is not loaded unless to ask for it.

You need to force the HDMI on, on the HDMI port you are using. As its a Pi5, I assume you are using the -kms- stack.
Then load the snd driver.

That's a couple of lines in /boot/config.txt and maybe an addition to /boot/cmdline.txt to tell the kernel to set up the HDMI output(s)

I need to refer you to the Pi Forums and documentation for the gory detail.
My Pis all run headless, except for fault finding. I don't use the audio at all.

Moved from Multimedia to Gentoo on ARM.

Its Pi specific at the moment, so belongs here.

I had to create a pipewire-pluse init.d rc script to make it work so I have three: pipewire, pipewire-pulse, wireplumber
