|
|
I got no .openoffice directory or the .sversionrc file in the user's homedir.
I got the same error
Code: | admin@vvstud1 admin $ ooffice
running openoffice.org setup...
setup failed.. abort
|
The funny thing is that it did work last year last tested by me 17. december 2003.
I tried to remerge openoffice-bin and font ebuilds, no luck.
Any ideas? _________________ Magnus frater spectat te! |

My .openoffice directory is in the /root directory. I run it as a regular user but that is where it is.
I had trouble with mine and then re-emerged it and used the Kappfinder to add to the menu and off it went. That is what I remember anyway. I need to start taking notes on this stuff.
Hope that will a bit anyway.

If you use KDE click the start thingy then Settings then Kappfinder (Menu Updating Tool). In that click scan then scroll around to find open office and then put a check mark next to it and click apply.
That was how I did it. I couldn't get it to start from commandline as any user. I haven't tried it since though.
If you use something besides KDE, I'm at a loss.
I did copy this from the install though.
Code: | >>> /usr/bin/ooweb -> ooffice
>>> /usr/bin/ooimpress -> ooffice
>>> /usr/bin/oocalc -> ooffice
>>> /usr/bin/oodraw -> ooffice
>>> /usr/bin/oomath -> ooffice
>>> /usr/bin/oopadmin -> ooffice
>>> /usr/bin/oowriter -> ooffice
|
That help any?

I had this same problem using the openoffice-bin ebuild. I "solved" it by using the non-binary ebuild instead. Took a helluva long time, and I had to tone down my CFLAGS to get it to build, but the end result is that everything works fine, and its pretty snappy. Took ~4 hours to build on a P4 3.2ghz.

I must have did that too. Mine took about 6 or 7 hours to compile. That Volcano 11+ fan sounded like a jet engine. I was napping.
You may want to try that. Mine was about 190MBs over a 24K dial-up. Worth it though. Took 4 nights to get it.
Might be worth a try.

It did sort of tick me off a few times. I think I wound up compiling it twice. I guess it just though it was done the first time. After that the Kappfinder thing worked.
Do try to start from a xterm and then from Konqueror, as root. I think the Konqueror one worked for me. I don't recall running the setup program either.
Hope that helps, a little anyway. Wish I had that connection.

Can I come over and bring my hammer? It's just a 3 lb mini sledge. I'm going to hit it hard though!
Gone googleing. We are going to fix this darn thing if I have to remove mine and start over.
Get ready, I'm pi$$ed.
Back in a bit. Got to print this and see what I can find.

I found something. Go to this link:
http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/releng/
then scroll down to just above #6. It says this:
Quote: | An OpenOffice 1.1 .tbz2 package will be included on all architectures that are able to support it. Gentoo Linux 1.4 provided an openoffice-bin package that did not function properly. |
When I did mine I did emerge openoffice not openoffice-bin.
That may be a clue. We may need that hammer after all.
Did you download and try the plain openoffice?
Still looking

Nope I didn't try the plain OOo.
I'm waiting for my emerge -e openoffice to finish, see if that helps, then I will try the plain OOo. _________________ Magnus frater spectat te! |

Hope you have a better connection than I have. Took me four nights and part of one day to get the darn thing. It was worth it, looking back, wouldn't want to look forward to it again though. That make sense?
Post back what you get. I'll be googling for a bit. Also trying to figure out php stuff. I'm helping with a site and have a lot to learn, quick.

I emerge it as root, and try to run it with a different user; admin ...
I've also tried to run it with other users and tried to add a new testuser and then run it.. No luck. _________________ Magnus frater spectat te! |

My solution:
I'd clean the users homedir (config-files), now it works fine! _________________ Magnus frater spectat te! |
