I started using 2.6.0 some time ago and don't know if that is related to this problem but for some odd reason everything in my usr dir (seperate partition) think that they are now read-only. I found this out after running "emerge sync
and getting this readout

where it connects to another server to try and write to the read-only partition.
So at this point I thought np, must have done something to tell it to mount read-only. Checked out what everything was setup with "mount -l" which tossed back

This is where I get confused. I don't know where to look from here, any and all help is more then welcome.
Thanks in advance. _________________ ~kamui~ |

While trying to figure out what was wrong with portage I tried to delete the /usr/portage dir and was just going to let sync rebuild it and it was the same read-only msg. I just tried some of my old mp3 that where under /usr as well and still get that read-only... No idea where to take this... If I can't find a fix/solution I think I'll have to re-install, even though the box is stable and everything works great if I can't emerge it seems kinda moot =/ _________________ ~kamui~ |

Have you checked your disk space? Try entering
and you should get a report on the space you have left on your filesystems. _________________ When the program is being tested, it is too late to make design changes. The Tao of Programming (3.1) |

Okay, I fixed it...
First of all, in my fstab there was XFS for the root partition which is wrong... I had to put EXT3 there.
Then I booted from a live CD and did fsck.ext3 /dev/hda3 (my root partition), which corrected several errors...
That should be it.
Somehow Kernel 2.6 is a little bit more pedantic with errors...
regards,
Ben |

Sounds like somebody updated baselayout, ran etc-update, and didn't check what was being changed.
HINT: The default fstab file given by baselayout has the root partition as xfs. |
