|
|
This is my second time installing gentoo, and the first time went well, however...
When trying to install syslog-ng, I got 404 errors from balabit.com
I checked the site itself, and the version on the site has changed from syslog-ng-1.6.0rc3.tar.gz to syslog-ng-1.6.0rc4.tar.gz
I did an emerge-sync, but the newer package doesn't show up yet when I try to emerge syslog-ng, it is still the old version that it is looking for, which balabit took off...
How do I correct this (with keeping syslog-ng as opposed to going to a different syslogger)
Thanks! |

OK, hope this helps.
I've noticed something similar when emerging slang during installation (a gentoo forum post pointed me to the solution), and I've managed to get syslog-ng going in the same way ... Pretty simple actually: the SRC_URI in the ebuild is out of date. A bit more information might help ...
When emerging, portage checks the ebuild (somewhere in your /usr/portage/ directory) for the SRC_URI, i.e. the ftp or http site where to get the source file. The most recent - as of today - 'syslog-ng-1.6.0_rc3-r1.ebuild' (found in /usr/portage/app-admin/syslog) has the following SRC_URI:
http://www.balabit.com/downloads/syslog-ng/${PV%.*}/src/${MY_P}.tar.gz
(The ${} are variables that indicate version numbers ...)
If you go on the web and check to see if the right syslog-ng ... tar.gz is in there ... you won't, as syslog-ng is now up to rc4. If you peek into the /old directory, you'll find the rc3. Therefore, the official Gentoo ebuild is out of date.
To make your ebuild work ...
| Code: | | nano -w /usr/portage/app-admin/syslog-ng/syslog-ng-1.6.0_rc3-r1.ebuild |
and change the SRC_URI to :
http://www.balabit.com/downloads/syslog-ng/${PV%.*}/src/old/${MY_P}.tar.gz
(Notice the 'old')
then
If you encounter a similar 'emerge' problem, a similar solution should do the trick. Good luck!
I'll send this one to bugzilla ... done:
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36394

Many thanks!
I knew there was probably something similar that could be done, but I wasn't sure what exactly.
I always heard the gentoo forums were very helpful, and you just confirmed that, thanks! |
