I need the USB capabilities of virtualbox-bin, but I can't get it to start. the -ose version starts fine, but when I try to fire up the binary version I get an error saying something about failing to create the COM object and the details mentions NS_ERROR_FACTORY_NOT_REGISTERED.
Any ideas?

Nope, but those symlinks are installed by the ebuild (although virtualbox-bin resides in /opt and not /usr/lib64, but all the symlinks are in components/)
I seem to be getting the same message on mine. If I run 'sudo VirtualBox', it starts just fine. I was already in the usb group, so the same thing is not going to fix my issue. Here is a list of the groups I am in: 'lp wheel audio video games usb users plugdev vboxusers'.
There is also no icon in my Applications menu in Gnome, for either -bin or -ose. I tried the -ose, but there was no VirtualBox file to load the GUI. Anyone have any ideas? This is a fresh install, not an upgrade. I just recently re-installed everything for Gentoo, and am running ~amd64.

While searching for a solution to my issue I found several people with similar issues that solved it by removing all VirtualBox temporary files in /tmp
After relogging a few times, all the errors appear to have corrected themselves with the -bin. I wasn't able to use the icon in the Applications menu, but was able to type VirtualBox in a terminal. After relogging, suddenly the Applications menu item was working correctly.
