Network Printing with PIXMA MP190

I bought my pixma printer about 2 months ago and i've been trying, and failing, to get this thing working in gentoo (amd64).

I've installed the cnijfilter-3.00.ebuild which is supposed to support the mp190 printer.
In addition to that i've installed the emul-linux-x86-bjdeps-0.1-r2.ebuild with popt-1.7 patches.
I've also installed the sane-pixma-0.14.4.ebuild

I believe this is everything needed to at least get the printing working but all in all i think i'm missing something or did something wrong.

When the printer is plugged directly into the computer, the comptuer recognizes it with both lsusb command and with cups config (127.0.0.1:631). But i still can't print anything.

How it is configured now is i have a usb-to-ethernet printserver that is connected to the printer. From my laptop (windows) the printer works fine so i don't think it's the print server. I can ping the printserver's ip no problem from my gentoo system but still cannot print. I want to leave the printer as a network printer because i have multiple computers that i print from.

If anyone can shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated.
