open office disables gl support for users, but not root

This is the second time I have experienced this problem. After emerging openoffice (this time ximian 1.1.0), I cannot run any opengl applications with a user. This is what I get:

Code: Select all

david@localhost david $ glxgears
libGL error: failed to open DRM: Operation not permitted
libGL error: reverting to (slow) indirect rendering
With root, it works just fine.

Before emerging openoffice, all opengl apps worked smoothly.

Oh, and I do have the DRI section as it should be in my xf86config.

Does anyone know what to do?

For immediate gratifacation, you can give everyone read permission with:

Code: Select all

chmod 644 /dev/misc/agpgart
If you want it to persist after a reboot, try adding something like this in /etc/devfsd.conf:

Code: Select all

# Let normal users have access to agpgart so that GL works
REGISTER ^misc/agpgart PERMISSIONS root.root 644
You can test that by logging out of X, doing a 'modprobe -r' on your video card's module and agpgart, and then restarting X.

Sorry for the delay, but I changed mine like ronmon said.... Although it did not change back after a reboot and I did not need to edit /etc/devfsd.conf.

chmodding agpgart did not do anything for me. Still get the

Code: Select all

libGL error: failed to open DRM: Operation not permitted
libGL error: reverting to (slow) indirect rendering
opengl-update xfree did not help out either. I have a radeon 7500 on a 2.6test-mm6 kernel with agpgart and radeon compiled into the kernel. "ati-drivers" are not available for this chipset...
Anyone else have thoughts on how to get libGL to successfully open DRM?
