I have a problem with kopete-4.2.2, it seems MSN isn't working even with the msn USE flag (worked in 4.2.1). I can't even add an msn account. Here are my USE flags, am I missing something or is MSN support broken?

Code: Select all

[ebuild R ] kde-base/kopete-4.2.2 USE="addbookmarks alias autoreplace contactnotes highlight history jabber msn nowlistening oscar pipes privacy ssl statistics texteffect translator urlpicpreview yahoo -bonjour -debug -gadu -groupwise -jingle -kdeprefix -latex -meanwhile -otr -qq -testbed -webpresence -winpopup -wlm" 0 kB

you need to enable the wlm flag (windows live messenger)

Have you run revdep-rebuild lately? It's in gentoolkit and it's worth a shot if things don't work well.

wlm is the new plugin for msn, should be a bit better feature wise (supports offline messages for example).

I'm sorry to ask this question again but i really want to use this feature : is anyone able to get amarok-9999 compiled with ipod support ?

What do you think about Kaffeine for KDE4? Is it good enough for daily use?

Thank you a lot. :D

kde4 problem

Post by marcus84 » Fri Apr 10, 2009 3:30 pm

Hi,

I have a very strange problem with kde4. The fact is that when I execute xdm I see nvidia logo, then the mouse and then a black screen. I have been trying with kdm 4.2.2 and 4.2.69. Neither of them works.

My x11-xorg is:

Before some update it worked correctly but I don't know where is the fucking problem. Any idea? Where can I look?

P.D. Blackbox works perfectly executing like: startx /usr/bin/blackbox

Anyone else experiencing that embarrassing amarok bug (live version) where the collection mis-allocates songs to wrong artists? mysql-5.0.76 that is, and that problem seems to exist for months now.

E.g. dragging Emilíana Torrini - Fisherman's Woman over the playlist, it only adds it from tracks 07 to 12. When I manually drag those missing songs into the playlist (from dolphin), they appear as 'Frode Fivel' songs.

EDIT: Now, having moved out that Various Artists folder containing a song of Frode Fivel, those tracks 01 to 06 from Torrini appear artist-less. But my files are tagged correctly without exceptions. What strangeness is going on there?

I had the same problem, does your xorg log end ad loading glx? If yes, eselect opengl to xorg-x11 and then back to nvidia. It fixed mine. IF not, try using some of the newer drivers (Available through some of the overlays)

I think isn't the same problem. Xorg loads correct, but not kdm. KDM shows the follwing lines in logs:

Code: Select all

Apr 11 20:58:31 akapc kdm: :0[7472]: Received unknown or unexpected command -2 from greeter
Apr 11 20:58:31 akapc kdm: :0[7472]: Abnormal termination of greeter for display :0, code 125, signal 0

any suggestion?

Here you go: emerge -v1 playground-plasma-themes. It's already in overlay for quite some time.
If you don't want to pull other themes but only air you can do:

Code: Select all

cd ~/.kde/share/apps/desktoptheme && svn checkout svn://anonsvn.kde.org/home/kde/trunk/playground/base/plasma/desktoptheme/air/

thanks !

I'm currently re-compiling my system with gcc 4.4 so I'll check after that if that bug still exists
I have one with okular for a pretty long time:

it doesn't obey if I want to print more than 1 copy of a document it only prints them once so I have to go through the printer dialog as often as I want to print it (amount of copies)

Since kde-4.2.2 is now removed from the overlay, someone should unmask it in the main portage three. It is a bit inkonvenient to set up a package mask file just until someone finally unmasks it. Kde-4.2.2 should have been tested enough...

Or just wait a few hours until that happens anyway? Or do you really have to update _just_now_?

I wouldn't if I were you. Me and [post=5646602]several others[/post] updated to 4.2.2 and were rewarded with an empty "Applications" menu.
If ~amd64 ebuilds are cutting edge, then git-9999 ebuilds are chainsaws.

it's not about updating... it's about running 'emerge -auv world'... 110 packages want me to downgrade to their 4.2.1 version and it's annoying, but it should only be for people updating during this short time.

Where can I find this package:

Code: Select all

emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy ">=x11-misc/xdg-utils-1.0.2-r3".
(dependency required by "kde-base/kdelibs-4.2.69" [installed])
(dependency required by "@world" [argument])
¿¿??

it sucks having to use kde4 alone (I'm still heavily relying on several kde-3.5* apps)

you dont need kdeprefix to mix 3.5 and 4.x, it's only for 4.x minor revisions.

what happened to the kdeprefix with @kde-extras-live?
can't we just go back the way it was before?
removing kdeprefix messes everything up.
this is a strange strange world.

well that's nice - thanks,

BUT pykde4 doesn't seem to compile without kdeprefix right now and thus preventing me to compile and work with kde4 (or there's again some minor problem upstream which will be fixed later allowing to compile it again)

I've run both 4.6.29 and 4.2.2 (both with -kdeprefix, at seperate times) and had no problems with pykde. Try to build packages without support for pykde first and then rebuild pykde after, I seem to remember that working.
